Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

I feel confident in my faction pick, but knowing the mods will step in makes me feel better.

JW, did you request for the mods to choose or did you choose a side and provide reasoning?

I was looking at submitted apps and there are some cases that look like a hard sell for the factions they chose.

Re: FELLDEN

^ the way i read it and how the conversation went in plurk sounded to me, the mods really wanted everyone to pick their own side w/reasoning because it gave them one less thing to concern themselves over with apps, but they were allowing it for this first round only. they still want people to pick a side themselves. i didn't read any of that as 'will actually change which faction the party picks'. they're just willing, for this round, to help if you're really that stuck on a faction. i still think you have to give a blurb for each court and they'll probably coinflip/rng it. i don't really see them being that much of a stickler for appropriate sides.

just pick a side, anon. choosing a side really shouldn't be what stalls your app.

(ps, how are you looking at submitted apps? the comments are screened, which i assume means the links to who's apping what are screened too. some of the journals that reserved chars aren't the actual character journals, if that's what you were going off of)

Apps have to be linked. You are right that some of the journals at the reserves post are not for the characters reserved but most of them are, and the TDM also has several reserved characters.

I'm not the subthread OP and I think my faction choice is fine. Seeing impulsive, emotional, or follow-your-heart types of characters trying to get into the same faction as the one the goddamn Batman, World's Greatest Detective, is applying for? That is what I don't get.

[disclaimer, I'm not the Batman applicant, I just think certain characters don't suit the factions their players want them in no matter how they word it]

maybe i'm jaded, but i just don't think the mods are as concerned about it as much as potential players and people wanting to shitstir are. i'm pretty sure if people give a faction and put words together to justify their rationale behind it, the mods are going to let it fly. i think people are just making more out of it than it is, and the last thing i want to see is mods getting burned out over goddamn faction choices before the game even opens.

the wording is semi ambiguous enough that anyone can feasibly fit in any court because of certain personality traits. even if someone fits the 1-2-3 of one side, maybe they plan on or prefer to focus on A, which fits with the other side. playing bender from futurama and going with moon court could fit with 'i bend things and do things, including you. c'mere, baby'. if they give a reasoning that fits, idc. and i think the mods are going to wind up going that way, which is why i'm glad they clarified that they'd just be allowing mod choice/help with the choice for this singular round.

my interpretation is what inspired my choice. people may not agree, but it's what I plan to focus on.

idk if it's jaded to say that people here care more than the mods probably do. it's just a sad reality of our picking things to death.

it's a big game mechanic, so i understand why people are making a big deal out of it. it's no fun if people disregard a main part of the game.

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2019-08-23 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
not many are disregarding it tho. it really is a lot of people nitpicking.

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2019-08-23 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
this. if you're given the choice to pick a side, just pick a side. if you have a reason as to why you want to be in a side, you're not disregarding anything. if anything, the people who are (unsure) and wanting the mods to choose for them are disregarding it. you're asked to pick on your app. pick.

nowhere on the app or the faq do they demand that you fit all sides of every faction. they're pretty open about people interpreting it their own way. i mean, what if you're not an idealist or a realist? what if you're a pessimist? what if you're both? what if you're one, but at a later canon point you're another? are people going to get in catfights on anon comms over whether you fit because of canon point?

like, enough, man. so much goddamn scrutiny. i'm tired of it. just let people play. unless they're toxic, harassing, or unrecognizably ooc that you can point it out, who cares? let it go, elsa.

let people pick and make their case for it. it doesn't matter if anons don't agree. your opinion doesn't matter, anon. the mods are the ones to decide if it works for them or not. end of story.

most of the arguments i've seen about this have amounted to anons complaining about minor interpretation differences and people not going with the option they'd personally choose for their own app.

balance-wise, having some mod involvement in saying who goes where might prevent situations like one side suddenly outnumbering the other. ideally it could make for an interesting plot (court of stars has a lot more new recruits thanks to this app round and mounts a strike! how will you handle the turned tide, moon temple? etc) but in a practical sense, winning/losing all the time just because your faction has more/less people isn't going to be much fun.

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2019-08-23 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
it's not supposed to be fully balanced, though. nothing ever is. look at games that have options for sides. unless a mod is putting characters one in one, one in another, when you give people the chance to pick their own sides, like eachdraidh or fellden, or to pick their own houses/signs, like asgard and zodion, nothing's ever going to be exactly so. and tbh, it shouldn't be.

you're also assuming that every person of every side is going to fight and do so equally. what if you balance out all the numbers, but a full 2/3rds of one side opts not to 'fight' or w/e? we're not really sure what the gameplay is going to be like, so tbh, all this presumption and assuming is kind of irrelevant. let the game play for a few months and then maybe we can chime in with suggestions or observations. but right now, we're all just observing a fart in the wind.

thank you. this is exactly how i feel about all this talk of factions and stuff when we don't even know how things will be done yet or how any of the fighting/warring will work.

I feel my character is destined to specifically one particular faction, but I'm also happy to see the mods willing to put characters in some factions if they need to, for either balance or personality.

Re: FELLDEN

(Anonymous) 2019-08-27 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
i chose one faction for my character over the other and gave some reasons for it. tho honestly if they choose a different one for me for whatever reason, i won't really care. /shrug ultimately it doesn't matter what faction my guy is in, so long as i get to play him.

I had an idea for my character and so I chose a particular side, but honestly they'd fit into either court so I won't be torn up if the mods hop in and tell me to switch it.
