two cats named nyx and persephone. the greek underworld goddesses naming scheme was not intentional, we got the second cat from a friend who couldn't keep her anymore and she just coincidentally had a matching name.

i grew up with dogs but now i'm living on my own and she's the first dog that's really ever been mine. it's such an unreal feeling. the first month that i had her i kept having moments where i was like 'oh my god, she's really my dog'. i am so lucky to have her and i have never loved an animal like this before.

Gemma: A mocha-colored pitbull who's a big soft snuggle enthusiast. In the morning, she "sings" (howls at length) until both dogs in the house have bones and both humans have coffee, and we all get together for first breakfast in the living room. She likes to play tug of war with the much smaller dog, lying stationary with a toy in her mouth while he tugs on the other end with his whole body. She's never once not let him win.

Sammy: A three-legged minpin/chihuahua mix who's full of vim and vinegar. He's always taking on the pitbull with no regard for the size differential. Thankfully, Gem has infinite patience, and when she has to put him in his place, does so safely. They share most toys and beds but he has a couple of his own, including a foldout toddler's Tinkerbell couch, which I think suits his personality perfectly. He's actually the older of the two.

Midnite: A mysterious fluffy black cat with yellow eyes that only leaves the house at night. To what ends, I don't know. I often call him Midward Norton.

I should clarify, when I say "taking on" I mean "goading into play" not displaying aggression.

a blue tick coon hound who i resent us having because we got her before we were really ready for another animal and her size and energy levels do not match our family at all.

she's a good girl who tries her best though, and i think she'd be an excellent dog in a different home. she's also hopelessly attached to my mother, who has hated every dog we've ever had, which amuses me to no end.

2 cats, both derps. one is fluffy as shit and a huge flirt whenever strangers come to the door (the number of pizza delivery peoples who have said "omg your cat is so pretty!!!!") the other is a very good mouser but shy as hell around strangers. both of them love me and need to be somewhere in my presence at all times. currently one is rolled into a cinnamon bun on the floor about 2 feet away, the other is on the back of the couch.

a cat i exclusively address as "dumbass". notorious foot fetishist. he likes to sit in front of the glass doors at the back of the house and let all the kids in our building fawn over him through it. massive crush on an outdoor cat that hangs around and goes nuts trying to get senpai to notice him whenever he comes past, but senpai's too busy sunning himself and eating mosquitos.

my retired racing greyhound just turned five last week! she's the sweetest sassiest girl and i love her more than the world. gonna take her to the farmer's market tomorrow so she can smell all the things.

two noodles/nope ropes, both boys. Tuco is an albino western hognose who scoots around and tunnels throughout the day, super curious, hisses on principle when first picked up.

Blondie is a champagne ball python who is the opposite and only slithers between his warm and cool hides unless he's hungry, then he hunts. His cool hide is a cat's water dish that he can fit under and coil around and it's starting to get a little too big for him, to the point you can tell right away he's there because the dish is hovering a few centimeters off the substrate. He is pretty stinking cute for all he's kind of a pet rock.

He's watching my roommates play Super Kirby Clash.
