Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

this is the best delayed gratification reaction to a reference i've ever gotten

the new thing i learned recently is that Saturn's north pole is 20,000 miles across and shaped like a perfect hexagon more info here https://twitter.com/_Astro_Nerd_/status/1164389492691742720

Recently I saw somebody's post about how they saw on a documentary that white pepper seeds are just black pepper seeds with the skin removed.

I was utterly shaken...

moose can dive up to six meters underwater and their nostrils are shaped like that because they can voluntarily seal them off while they eat plants off the lake/river bottom.

this constantly blows my mind

this and the fact that orcas are one of the moose's natural predators

Drive through windows for fast food are all on one particular side--- my husband told me amd now I am perpetually trying to find that 'odd' one.

I am tempted to find a lot of money and open up a fast food place called 'Wrong Side Window'

Re: blazing enlightment!

(Anonymous) 2019-08-22 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
it's possible because of driving placement. if they put it on the 'wrong side', then it either winds up with the car driving up on the passenger side being on the window, or there not being enough space for the lineup of cars that have to drive around, since if it was right off the one side, there'd be nowhere for cars to wait, just a longer place for them to drive. that's why the 'driveway' wraps around. has to be space and has to be on the right side.

...yes. because of the driver window. it's by design, anon. if you open one with the wrong side people who are alone in their cars are going to hate it because they will have to yell at you across an empty seat

beauty and the beast are cousins in the original book

Re: blazing enlightment!

(Anonymous) 2019-08-22 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)

warning for incest

That night, she agrees to marry him and when she wakes up next to him she finds the Beast transformed into the unknown from her dreams. This is followed by the arrival of the fairy who had previously advised her in her dreams, along with a woman she does not recognize, in a golden carriage pulled by white stags. The woman turns out to be the Prince's mother whose joy quickly falters when she finds out that Beauty is not of noble birth. The fairy chastises her and eventually reveals that Beauty is her niece with her actual father being the Queen's brother from Happy Island and her being the fairy's sister.

everything is cool after that. remember, incest is fine but don't you dare marry a villager!

SA

from another summary since i just realized that one has the "her" a bit ambigous

again warning for incest: Which leads us to the book's most shocking twist: Beauty and the Beast are first cousins. Beauty is revealed to be the secret daughter of the King of the Fortunate Island, who is the brother of the Queen, the prince's widowed mother.

did they kick him out of the family for being an inventor nerd

nonono, the inventor nerd is Belle's adoptive father. it's some "lost noble baby" kind of deal

Did you really warn for incest about a fairytale featuring European royalty??

Wait until you hear about the Egyptians

Re: blazing enlightment!

(Anonymous) 2019-08-23 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
...yes?

i know how royalty used to fuck themselves, anon. i'm not surprised. it's still incest. some people don't like reading about incest, and it can be a trigger for others. just because it used to be common it doesn't make it a comfortable subject. what exactly do you think warnings are for?

First cousins aren’t seen as incestuous in a number of (eastern and western) cultures and world religions... not every culture treats them like PRACTICALLY SIBLINGS, they’re actually an old-fashioned romantic trope in a bunch of countries, comparable to the American girl-next-door stories (both now, obviously, outdated tropes).

They’re genetically different enough as to be comparable to marrying a stranger, UNLESS your family has a history of cousin marriage after cousin marriage after cousin marriage, after which, you definitely concentrate your bad genes and need some diversity.

Cyrano de Bergerac is also about (secret/unrequited, due to Cyrano’s low self-esteem and ) love between cousins, Ranma 1/2 featured betrothed cousins, it was featured in an episode iof Detective Conan too...

If memory serves, Syrians(? I may be forgetting which specific Arabs do this, I’m bad with dialects) are so used to it, wives call their husbands son-of-my-uncle as a term of an endearment.

i'd heard the phrase "turtles all the way down" before in a comic but didn't think anything of jt since it was part of a joke about the teenage mutant ninja turtles. but then i was out at a bar and they had a glass with the same phrase on it and i was curious enough to google it and i learned that it's an actual expression referring to the mythological subject of the world turtle and i'm a little blown away by how much deeper that tmnt joke was than i'd realized.
