help meme please

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

needs more context. and if this character is bucky, be aware he isn't disabled.

how do you figure that shit?

Probably by the same logic that people who wear glasses aren't disabled.

gonna take a wild stab in the dark and say that if the correction for a disability gives you superpowers/better mobility/etc than not having the initial disability, rendering it invisible, with no side effects, then it doesn't count as that disability anymore

unless bucky experiences ill or limiting effects like prof x or edward from fma in which case i'll eat soap as penance

+1

This. FMA takes pains to show automail being limited and having drawbacks that are reasonably realistic (all things considered) for someone with a dense metal prosthetic. The fit changes as he grows, the weight and lack of temperature regulation causes him discomfort, parts break down and need maintenance, and all the stuff Ed can do with it has to do with him and his cool abilities, not with anything inherent to the automail itself other than being made of metal.

I think it's kind of fucked up to assume that he DOESNT have any kind of pain or inconvenience just because the few movies where he has a supporting role dont spend the same time and care portraying the difficulties he would face as a long-running series does with its lead character. Bucky also has severe PTSD and trauma, and those are disabilities too.

Also, even if it's a super badass prosthetic, he doesn't always have it.

Calling Bucky disabled feels like some clumsy thing Marvel would publicize to get “woke” points. Like when they said their comics were diverse because of all the aliens with green skin or purple skin or blue skin.

You sound like the kind of person who harasses people for "faking" when you find out they can walk a few steps without their wheelchair

Re: da

he's a fictional character, he'll be OK

Re: da

It isn't about assuming he doesn't, it's that he's never shown to have it. Anything you add in as a ficcer/rper/fan is headcanon.

in fairness, he is shown not to have it. the timespan between his last appearance in captain america and the stinger in black panther shows he was living without it. problem there is that it's unexplored by the films, but it did happen anon.

NEVER-never, or never in the mcu, which is the stick by which too many rp newbs measure the validity of a character that's existed for ages in print?

Re: da

holy judgment, batman

you don't have to be a newb to judge a canon from what it SHOWED. the comics could've showed tons of things but they are a different universe and those things don't apply to the adaptations

man I read this in the annoying nasally voice of the Comic Book Guy, good work

Re: da

I think it's safe to assume that a guy who's missing a fucking arm is disabled unless the canon actually goes out of its way to state that he DOESN'T experience any negative consequences from that whatsoever
