hey, anons, i'm looking for games like fantasy life and my time at portia. that means a mix of attacking monsters, gathering resources and crafting shit, maybe custom your home and a mount in a chill setting.

i'm been googling all day but lists get frustrating as hell. i keep getting either survival games (which usually aren't chill in my experience, they are tense and you must defend the fort, but if you know of an exception i'm all ears) or farming simulators like stardew/harvest moon (while these games are more on the style of what i'm looking for, i don't want the main gameplay to be centered on farming, i find it boring. keeping a couple of plants as a side thing like mtap or the berries in pokemon is fine tho and i'll take suggestion if that is all but iswg if i see another person call mtap a farming sim...)

Animal Crossing, if you have a nintendo console. It's chill incarnate.

Terraria for PC or console. Tons of enemies to fight, and it's all about gathering resources, crafting them into new weapons and armor, building houses for yourself and NPCs, and there are lots of mounts. The building aspect is chill, but I won't pretend most of the game isn't about fighting.

Maybe Factorio? It's hella about gathering resources and crafting, you can choose how many enemy monsters there are, how often they spawn and spread, or even whether they exist at all. There's no social aspect, though, and you can't build a house per se, but you can pretty your base up some.

AC doesn't have combat or crafting and it's another one on these lists that i keep finding that irritates me. it is okay if you like it anon, but it's closer to the sims than anything else. not the same genre at all.

There is an older game called Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale that might scratch a few of your itches!

You play as a girl who has inherited her father's shop, as well as all his debts. You have to keep up with steadily growing repayments by selling goods -- either buying bulk goods in town and flipping them, or selling items you pick up in the dungeons.

It's a mix of a dungeon crawler roguelike and a shopkeeper sim. The fighting is pretty basic -- I would say slightly more difficult than Portia, once you get the hang of it. There are visitors to your shop you can get to know, as well as heroes you play as in the dungeon sections. Between managing your shop and your hired heroes, there's also some minor things like expanding and redecorating your shop, as well as random events, and some VERY basic crafting elements.

Starbound! It's a side scroller pixel PC game (hopefully coming to console soon) where you can visit thousands of unique planets, kill dungeon mobs, loot villages, collect really cool weapons, craft furniture (or steal furniture), have a rainbow sparkly cape and build whatever you want. You can also collect monsters like pokemon and you can have a pet cat and can customize your space ship. I don't have the time to gush about the rest of it because there's a lot to this game, haha but it's got some cool backstory lore.

You can also just play around building stuff if you want to instead of slaying mobs, it's very Minecraft-y when it comes to building potential.

I don't think the plot has been updated so there's not much of one but honestly I haven't played for plot in a long time so it might have.

i don't have any recommendations, but i just picked up my time at portia and i'm so into it after resisting for so long. i thought the characters were so hideous. i mean, they are but i don't even care anymore. it's fun 😁

agreed actually. most of the girls are cute, but most of the guys are just ok. i don't get fandom's boner for mint, honestly. you have good taste.

fwiw in stardew i actually have the most fun spelunking in the mines. in the desert there's a mine that's literally bottomless and filled with tough monsters.

go for a "mining" farm or "wilderness" farm where monsters attack you at night, and you can keep the farming stuff pretty minimal and focus more on exactly all the things you listed. you can customize your home too with wall paper, furniture, etc etc

hell, last farm i didn't grow any crops at all! i raised an army of pigs and had them do all the hard work for me digging up truffles to fund my desert mining expeditions.

if you like cats, cattails is also similar. super chill explore/gather resources/sometimes fight off other colony cats/spelunk in mines kind of game. just not nearly as polished or in depth as stardew imo. on the bright side, cats don't pass out after 2am, heh heh.

ever oasis, if you have a 3ds.

it's like half town management/half rpg. you gather resources for your town and fight monsters for villagers' quests and shit. pretty chill and easy to get into. you get benefits for being a good chief but if you just wanna fuck around and dungeon crawl that's also an option.
