one of my cats has gotten really meowy and i can't tell what he wants. he'll sit there and meow at me yet he doesn't want food when offered, doesn't play when i try to play with his fave toys, seems like he might want to cuddle because he purrs when i pet him but then he moves away. then when i leave him alone he goes back to sitting and meowing at me like he wants something. it's sad to me, i can't figure it out.

does he maybe just want to be a chatty cat?

i guess i just can't stand the meow without knowing what it means and thinking it's a problem! he tugs at my heartstrings

i know that pet owner feel. he's your hairy baby and you want to make sure he's okay and not secretly suffering!

are you sure there isn't much new stuff going on? even if it's something forgettable like "oh i switched to a new shampoo/laundry detergent/shoe brand"?

any change in emotions? like stress from a new job or feeling down about a friend having a hard time?

animals are attuned to things we aren't. maybe a ghost is trying to possess you.

if he purrs when he pets you it sounds like he's basically being affectionate/clingy.

have you tried meowing back? maybe he just wants to talk

yes he purrs pretty much instantly when i pet him but he's so strange about petting. he basically wants me to follow him around the house and stop to pet him at certain spots then he continues on. he's such a weirdo. it's like he wants to go on a tour of the house while being petted and if i stop and go back we have to do it all over again

mine does that too anon, we go on tours every day and it makes him so happy. I think yours might just want to spent time with you in his own feline way because you're his human and he loves you! mine loves it when I act as tour guide, 'here is the kitchen, is this the best room? is it? it's a pretty great room, you're right. now let's investigate the hallway, there's some fur you dropped earlier, it's very good fur, oh okay the spare room now, do you love the bookshelf? you really love the bookshelf.' and so on
