i'm going into a subset of neurology! mostly because i hate surgery with a passion, and the brain is by far the most interesting organ. i also love the neuro exam and how you're able to localize lesions; it's like a logic puzzle that i have to work through to figure out what's going on.

my least favorite memories of med school are third year in its entirety, lol. third year is awful, because you're being graded on not knowing the shit you're literally there to learn and are treated like crap because you have no real responsibility and are the least important part of the team. my favorite memories are probably hanging with my med school friends, the moments where i was really able to connect with families & patients, and finding out that i'd matched.

sounds like neckbearditis. highly contagious, almost universally fatal unless you rub essential oils on your face and pray to the gods of rp.

what made you want to go into the medical field period? instead of majoring in something like philosophy or law?

does roleplaying help with the stress of med school? do you ever get peeved by shitty fictional biology issues in rp?

oh, is that why i have this stubble on my neck all of a sudden? better avoid mountain dew and doritos when i go shopping later then. oh man, i could really use a trenchcoat with all this rain we've been having though...

philosophy & law are both boring as fuck and have terrible job markets, for one. but really originally i fell in love with neuroscience and was going to do a phd, but was advised to shadow a doctor before i put all my eggs in that basket - and that won me over. i really liked being able to make a difference in people's lives, and as someone who's always been stem oriented, being able to put science into practice was the bomb.

it depends on the stress reduction - i found that i needed to take breaks from games during super stressful rotations, but now that i'm mostly a meme/psl-only rper it's a lot better. if i need to pause to avoid drowning in rl things, it's much easier to do so in memes, and most people either get it or drop the thread if delays are too much for them.

and yes - i have seen people fuck up medical/biological shit and it is a major pet peeve of mine. i remember one game where "cutaneous anthrax" was a curse placed on people and i had to bite my tongue because that's not a big deal at all. that's not the anthrax that people panic over. also people fucking up shit about med school (no, your 17 y/o is not attending med school in america... no, your ms1 is not treating patients... no, your 22 y/o is not an attending yet...) and professional apps in general (one au game had a character CONVINCED that taking law classes ad-hoc at a university was equivalent to attending law school. it's very much not). i try to let it go since people generally don't give a fuck about these things when creating aus/etc., but it chafes me for sure.
