Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

i meant besides that, lol. that's obvious.

how would you recommend making pets less scared of the vet? my dog seems to smell fear in the air or idk and she's instantly like NO NO NO LET'S TURN AROUND AND LEAVE I DON'T LIKE THIS. she'll pace and pant and get so anxious in the room, i feel so bad. :( she's a good girl so she'll greet anyone who comes in but then go back to freak out mode when they do "EVIL VET THINGS" to her. she'll calm down mostly when it's all over but it always breaks my heart when we come back next year and it's back to anxiety...

important pet things you wish more pet owners knew/did?

worst pet owners you've seen come in?

your favorite animal/pet facts?

how often do you get anti-vaxxer types? including people who think vaccines will give their pets autism.

Incentive and positive reinforcement work wonders on most dogs. Cats are obviously set in their ways. It may be that your doggo associates the vet with negative feelings bc of your own energy too so stay motivated to taking him out in the car, just because, like when you run to the gas station and back. It'll get them more acclimated. Also maybe stop for a treat of sorts on the way back from each trip. That way he associates the vet with reward and enthusiasm. It doesn't work with all dogs, but those who are food motivated tend to better in that regard. Also, just exposure will help her nerves.

I wish more pet owners treated their dogs and got them vaccinated. I've seen parvo take out some of the strongest dogs I know and regular check-ups and preventative maintenance saving dogs that looked like they'd never make it. It's all about dedication. You sign up for the animal, it's for life, that's your responsibility. My dogs are both rescues and one is a bit of a runaway so I do everything I can to keep eyes on her and do the extra work to prevent her from being hurt.

The funniest anti-vaxxer type I had was a woman who would throw a fit if you assumed her dog's gender, fed vegetarian, and never treated for fleas despite her dogs rampant propensity for them. She just kept bringing him in for flea baths.

Favorite facts??? I'm not sure, I like all pets and all breeds. I'm very fond of short-nosed brachycephalic breeds but that's only because I have more experience in their care and rehabilitation.

The worst pet owner was the owner of the ancient chihuahua. The original owner died, and she was a niece or something and didn't want to deal with her so she brought her in and asked us to euthanize her because she had fleas. My doctor asked if we could just take her off of her hands, and that's how Rosie got residence. She's since been adopted. Fussy old thing.

The other was a dog that a client tried to leave with us unbeknownst to his wife. We couldn't take another ward at that particular clinic and I found out, later on, he dropped Rocky off and abandoned him on the side of the road. Rocky has also found a home. Those are just good ending stories. I'd rather not get into the bad.
