my family keeps judging me, remind me that i'm not alone.

after i've been sitting at the computer i need to get up and do some laps in my apartment. usually i put on some music and just. go. i feel so dumb but i live alone and on a ground floor so nobody can complain, lmao. i just feel like i have a bunch of energy i need to let out. it's exercise, i guess?

oh dude me too. is it just for the physical exercise or does it help you think, i always get my best ideas with music + moving

no, it's just the physical aspect for me. idk, i do it throughout the day so i guess i just need to get up and do SOMETHING after a half hour or so of sitting.

this was me for like 20 years of my life before i finally got myself to stop

i wore one of those wrist braces that cover the thumb for weeks/months and broke the habit, it was not easy

i remember my mom trying to get me to stop when i was young. there was some peppery shit she got that was supposed to deter kids from sucking their thumbs, but i just kept at it and got used to it until she stopped using it.

i eventually quit on my own because i grew my nails out in late middle/early high school and sucking my thumb scratched up the roof of my mouth. kind of glad i didn't have to go for a wrist brace for it.

i keep my old baby blanket in bed with me. it's got a nice texture and the fabric always seems nice and cool so i shove my hands into it when it's too warm at night.

when my sister's tired, she plays with her hair. She used to eat hair as a child but at this point we're down to her just playing with it. And by playing I mean, she's take a handful of it and rub her thumb over the end. She doesn't even know she's doing it most of the time but its a sure tell and I always know to wrap things up or herd her toward bed if we're hanging out together. She's forty now and has done it as long as I can remember. I think its a texture/soothing thing for her. Never saw it as weird so much as a quirk that's just 'something my sister does'.

i'm picky about our silverware. depending on how i feel or what i'm eating, i need a different size or weight of fork/spoon. in general i prefer bigger forks for stirring things (weight makes me feel like it's doing more work) while the thinner ones i usually eat with, unless it's pasta or something heavier... then i need the first kind of fork. spoons are like, i use small ones for pretty much everything except cereal, which is the bigger spoon...

this started literally out of the blue a few years ago and it only applies to our house silverware, whatever i'm given at other people's houses or when i eat out i use without any issue. no one in my family comments on it though, which i feel might be the weirder thing

i prefer to use metal chopsticks over the plastic ones the rest of my family uses

i didn't think much about this until my mom pointed this out and laughed at me, when we had a guest over and i was setting the table. don't know why but it made me feel kinda shitty, but i still use the metal ones.

also I have to sort my M&Ms by color before I can eat them, and can only eat them in sets of odd numbers, which I split 3-2 or 2-1 to chew on either side of my mouth

skin picker here, how do you tear your nails to shreds?

my finger nails get slightly ingrown if i don't cut them often enough, it's not even my fucking imagination because i have to dig into the skin sometimes. i just want to cut my nails as short as possible. then my stupid brain thinks that the skin around my nail tips looks too "long" without the nail and i might clip the skin a bit.

almost tempted to remove some of my nails entirely tbh. i've seen some episodes of the toe bro about a podiatrist guy and seeing strangers on tv get their toe nails removed is oddly therapeutic. if i'm lucky, they'll grow back in a less shitty way.

I always hold drinks with my pinky out.

When I was in like 2nd grade my teacher had us have a fancy tea party and talked a bit about Victorian English tea parties and made a point of 'hold your pinky out when you're holding your tea cup!' and I enjoyed the whole thing so much (it was an excuse to wear a nice dress and we got to eat cookies at school) that I started holding my pinky out at home, and for some reason I never grew out of it? It's not just actual glasses either I do it with mugs and even soda cans.

ohhh, same! i don't know how i got the habit though, but i just constantly stick my pinkie out a little whenever i drink things? makes me feel real flash when i realise i'm doing it, which is a nice change

i do this too tbh. but it's more that it feels more comfortable with my pinky out and i feel more... "restrained" when it's not?

i have joint problems tho, pretty sure that's my excuse. can't think of anything that would've influenced me other than that episode of early spongebob where he meets sandy and wants to impress her.
