Maybe a masters, but going back to school is such a big commitment to such a small field of study that I want to give it enough time that I'll be sure before going back into the hell that is academia.

Closest I've gotten is just vindictively using acid and/or fire on samples that don't necessarily need it. I wouldn't be surprised if people do the receipt thing, but we're more likely to just swap stories about the most irritating/clueless client jobs we've ever gotten, at my lab. The dna thing... would be in poor taste to me so I hope people don't :(

I'm not against the idea? I do love playing characters with a scientific leaning. I don't think a lab is very sexy though. It's like medical kink but without all the things that people actually like medical kink for. And sometimes people study e coli there. Does a centrifuge turn anyone on? If it does I guess they're the one person out there who would find it exciting.

Favorite thing...I don't actually get a chance to look at many thin sections any more, but minerals and rocks are gorgeous. So are plant fibers, actually. They look kind of crinkly and it's very fun with the appropriate analyzer plate. My least favorite is anything with tar, because it's a nightmare to prep and it just makes everything really dark and hard to see.

All of the above wrt benefits. The health insurance isn't the best but it covers what I need it to, and I get free dental and vision, which I need a lot more. When I first started I didn't get much vacation, but I've gotten more very quickly and my boss is v. easygoing about it. The work hours are pretty flexible and I get paid time and a half for any overtime.
