no, i'm mad about a dark-skinned character's skin being lightened because i've grown up with a lot of self-hate surrounding my skin color and shit like that doesn't help.

they really thought making him less brown was the big problem-fixer here rather than jokes about him being a drug dealer or looking like he's from detroit.

i'm sorry to hear about your issues with your skin. however, he is a light-skinned character and the fact that people called emiya alter as 'blackface emiya' and 'n***** emiya' is a sign that maybe the original art direction was a bad direction.

those are the same person, not the same character. emiya alter within the story is the same person as shirou and EMIYA, but he is his own character with his own design. they whitewashed HIS design.

i'm speaking as an asian. there is a lot of racist shit and undertones with that and while i accept it may be innocent and unintentional on the japanese developers, i'm glad NA is doing something to change it along with the bad drug and detroit jokes they removed.

the design wasn't without its issues (the lips in particular being pretty uncomfortable), but lightening his fucking skin is an ugly thing to do with a hell of a lot of baggage attached to it and they should have known better. skin lightening is not acceptable. ever. for any reason.

emiya alter is not black and dark skinned asians do not look like that.

giving him black characteristics and stereotypes associated with black people is Not Good. in fact, you might say that it's racist.

they took a light skinned character and turned his skin black as an #aesthetic. being upset about lightening his skin is like being upset that someone washed off some of their blackface.

no, they took a fucking finalized design and lightened the skintone because they seriously thought whitewashing him was going to make the problem go away. EMIYA originally had a tan skin tone. emiya alter didn't. he was dark skinned and they changed that.
