So how about that new D.va short?

From an animation standpoint, far and away one of their best works. Their Cinematics department obviously brought their A game to this one.

Otherwise, dull. Clunky writing, corny dialogue, mic clipped on some of the dude's lines and his performance was pretty stilted anyway, and for a cool battle scene, I didn't really get much of a sense of climax to the short. As a character study/intro to D.va, it's just...kind of...okay?

Idk, I know Blizz has brought on a new writer who's actually published shit and won some awards and it sounds like she's getting a crack at some Shimada drama next, but they really need to beef up the writing in general if this and Mei's short are anything to go by.

Completely fell flat to me.

I enjoyed some of what came out of the short, so it wasn't a complete bust to me (seeing how Hana was before joining Overwatch, seeing life before and her learning the value of friendship/help or whatnot) and the animation was top tier.

Seeing the last mission she did with the MEKA Squad have an effect on her? Doubly good character building!

But the cinematic was missing something. I like D.va as a character already, as I have liked the characters they've had released cinematics for, for the most part. But this cinematic didn't make me feel a connection to D.va or Hana, as Honor and Glory did with Rein, Rise and Shine did with Mei, or even Last Bastion did. It was missing the oomph that the others had in some way to me. I want to like it as a whole but I'm torn on really liking it and liking parts that shine through the rest of its dull exterior, and the latter is winning out.

I AM glad that Korean players got to see it first, and finally got their badass representation though, but I do think they also deserve a better cinematic than what was given.

D.Va's not a member of Overwatch. She's a member of the Korean military.
