Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

i'm actually a little worried the mods have more than they can handle

that mod post they put up basically said as much

and the fact that they're getting so many questions for local temperament and things like that is a good indication that they need to give more direction

i like the new local temperament meter, but plopping characters in a world with a lot of npcs with minimal input on how they actually interact with characters is one of the more difficult parts of this game

i'm used to games where it's only pcs and some key npcs that the mods actually play, so part of it might just be an adjustment thing

i get the opposite feeling. it's rome, not an alien planet with an alien culture

the mods have consistently said that the natives won't know anything about the pcs' mission, so why some players run to them every month to hear the same thing is baffling

yeah i agree with the anon above me. also it seems like one or two players specifically are obsessed with the NPCs, so hopefully the temperament meter gives the mods some breathing room from constant questions.

the game is only a few months old, so it's only natural that the mods would post with some boundaries/explanations for how PCs interact in the world. i'm glad they're putting a freeze on player plots too tbh because i really am more excited for the plot.

+1

i like that they admitted they don't want plot to be dominated by only a few. after apping in late to games where mods give hooks to the first and fastest (who are always the same players) without any consideration for how that character is running fourteen organizations etc, this is nice

hard same. especially if your character wouldn't really be the plot-starting or interactive type (not necessarily true for me but i'm sure for others).

the mods seem really good about making things accessible to new players and keeping things on an even ground, so not everything is weighed toward the most active/the first to get to things. they're just making sure that the game stays true to their goal/vision and isn't steered by the players. not that i think anyone is maliciously trying to take over, it's natural to want to do your own thing and try to interact with the setting. but a balance is good.

like i said, it might be a style thing

i've never played in a game where there were a lot of faceless npcs that just weren't used, so it feels especially weird

You've never played in a game set in a city, where normal people go about their daily lives doing normal things??

I don't understand this

is it the norm now?

i also only recently came back to rp after a few years and most of the games i played in before were contained worlds with little to no npc presence except when it was plot important

it's pretty normal now. characters get (moderate) free reign to flesh out their mundane npc interaction without worrying if they're stepping on mod toes or missing anything important because they didn't speak to Farmer A the right way at the right time and gave her a gift of a dog husk on the night of a full moon

the npcs are there for background flavor/color, not leading the plot

a lot of faceless npcs have been the rule in dwrp for a while now, and it's one of the best changes we've adapted. it lets you interact with the setting better.

there are a few players, very nice players, who seem lost without an NPC to tell them exactly what to do and to receive their witty snark and "fuck The Man" behavior

but

i'm glad we are going without. i could not stand another game like CDC with everyone climbing all over themselves for NPC cr, asking the exact same questions month after month and ignoring PCs because "NPC #3 rolled her eyes at my character's stupid remark #burn"

MoM is the same thing. a full city of faceless NPCs

Asgard and Each were the same, too
