"rushed out of the gate too fast" coupled with a hasty TDM describes the biggest problem most new games have, and why they fail. Everyone's so desperate to be the next Big Thing they forget to fill in the details of the actual game, and then this happens. The moral of the story is of course to stop trying to be popular and to focus on the fundamentals but we're so stuck in this cycle I doubt anything will change anytime soon.
