i'm still baffled how she didn't know he was her son. like how many other alteans has zarkon been fucking that she knows produced offspring? i'm similarly confused how he doesn't know she's his mom, or that she's honerva, when she would've already been haggar for hundreds of years by the time he was born

He was probably told his mother was Honerva. No one (except maybe Zarkon) knows that Honerva and Haggar are the same person.

Hell, Haggar didn't even know Haggar and Honerva were the same person until the end of S4 - we're shown her remembering her identity, and that she'd at one point been in love with Zarkon. Her vision bullshit that led to her remembering Lotor was her son was her trying to reclaim more memories from her previous life.

in universe, you can't tell lotor is half altean by just looking at him. he's just another half galra like his generals. so she must've thought zarkon fucked someone else after he lost his mind.

the show tackles this. allura mentions it and he pretty much snaps at her. it's denial - that dark evil crazy witch can't possibly be his lovely, smart, talented mother.

lotor's generals all look incredibly different because they're all half galra tho. he himself looks a lot like a purple altean.

he looks like a purple altean to us because we're biased with information. in universe, he's a humanes-que purple man with pointy ears, EXACTLY like acxa, and krolia to a point fits this description too. allura didn't know he was altean on sight either. the one thing that makes alteans obvious on sight is the cheek marks, which is why she needed the hood drop to notice haggar's race.
