So the horizon looks pretty disappointing so far. More faction war crap, another revamped old world, Nightborne say "hey Alliance thanks for the help with freeing us from literal demon hell, we're joining the Horde and trying to kill you now bye", pointless vanilla servers that will be ghost towns in a month or two, woo.

Yeah, this is disappointing as fuck after Legion. And we have to work to recruit sub-races? Really?

ugh. kul tiras? really? hey blizz; not everyone loves jaina proudmoore, and not everyone wants to have a merry romp through jainaland.

if i bother with this next expac at all, my ally alts are going to stagnate.

tbh Nightborne have more in common with belves than nelves. They're aristocrats whose culture revolves around magic. They can't live without magic; they wither away without it. Blood Elves came from High Elves and also have a dependency on magic. Plus, if you pay attention on the Vindicaar, Liadrin's commiserating with Silgryn.

Nelves are more likely to look down on their nightborne cousins due to their need for magic than to welcome them. We as players don't have problems with Night Elf mages, but in-verse they still sure as hell do. It makes sense that the Nightborne would go to the Horde.

Plus. come on. Alliance can't have all the elf races.

I would have been a lot happier if they pulled a Pandaren and let Nightborne players choose a faction. It's a lot better than getting token "draenei, but with different shades of grey skin!" and "blood elves with butterfly wings!"

there's that, and for non-lore reasons i'm pretty sure it has to do with demon hunters.

think about it; if they gave alliance void elves and nightborne, assuming that the two sub-races can be demon hunters, that's three choices alliance has for creating a dh while horde only gets one. hardly fair.

they're not getting dhs though, so that seems pretty irrelevant.

The lore reasons are still relevant though. Nelves would totally be dicks to the Nightborne.

My issue with the Nightborne joining the horde (and to a lesser extent the alliance) is that they're basically signing up to slaughter the people that helped save their race from extinction. If it were individual Nightborne it could make sense, but for the entire race to go 'Yes I do think we need go to war against the people that saved us' makes no sense.

Especially once it comes out that Sylvanas wants to exterminate the human race to make more Forsaken. Why is ANYONE okay with that?

Either way they'd be doing that. The Horde helped them as well, so either way they'd be signing up to slaughter someone who helped them.

Not really? There isn't really another race on either side advocating the extermination of their enemies. Night Elves and Trolls hate each other, but they aren't looking for genocide. Same with the Draenai and Blood Elves, or the Humans and the Orcs. The only race bent on genocide are the Forsaken. I don't know why any of the horde races are okay with it, frankly.

Regardless, it doesn't make sense for the Nightborne, as a race, to join either side. A neutral faction with groups of them picking sides would've made sense, like the Pandarens, but this doesn't.

No they can't have all the elves, but I sure wish they'd trade us some Dark Iron dwarves in exchange for our stupid-looking moose tauren.

Seriously, the Highmountain's antlers annoy me. Even with the backstory of how they got them, they're just stupid. If they wanted a tauren subrace, the Taunka have been in the game since Wrath. At the risk of sounding like the crowd constantly whining for High Elves, I'm sure more people wanted Taunka than this bunch.

The Zandalari, now, that's really what confuses me. I thought everyone hated the Zandalari since they tried to, you know, kill us all back in Pandaria?

the zandalari were our bros back in vanilla, so there's probably a 100% chance of "oh that was a renegade faction, the rest of us are still cool with you."

Whatever expansion followed the final battle with Sargeras and the Legion was always going to feel anticlimactic to me, but I was totally betting on Azshara to keep the main event luster going. Instead we get what looks like either a weaker Mists of Pandaria or a slightly stronger Warlords of Draenor. So yeah, I don't have a lot of hype for it, either.

At least it looks like Jaina isn't an insane Voiddreadlordvoldemort. Yet!

To be fair, we will be fighting Azshara. She's just the mid-expansion raid boss instead of the ludicrously powerful threat to all existence she's been hyped up to be. Yay.

Personally I can't wait for Jaina to rub it in everyone's faces with "Told you fuckers. Sorry about Teldrassil, but I told you fuckers."

Too bad. That pain in the ass needs to be a raid boss so we can be rid of her already.

I'm actually pretty interested in the expansion in general, but I'm kind of disappointed by how many of the features focus on social activities - island expeditions and warfronts and all. I'm very much a loner in-game and generally do things by myself. So while I'm excited about things like island expansions, I know I'm probably not gonna end up doing them. And while I love the idea of level scaling, I hope the caps apply to old raids and dungeons as well - I run old content weekly and I don't want to have actually put thought into soloing ICC or Firelands.

(I realize this is ridiculous, it's an mmo for a reason, but I want solo activities, too.)

I see a lot of pissing and moaning on the official forums that Alliance is getting Void Elves and not High Elves.

I really don't get what the playerbase's eternal obsession with playable High Elves is. I, for one, welcome our new creepy elves.

high elf customization would be the blandest ever. their hair color options would just be ten different shades of blond.

i'm really meh on void elves because a) they've existed ingame for like ten minutes and b) those wings be ugly as fahk, son.

I think the wings might just be part of their heritage armor xmog? And not a permanent feature. Don't quote me on that, though.

Sure, Sylvanas couldn't raise non-humans as undead, but the Lich King had no such restriction. If he could raise fucking frostwyrms, turning dwarves, elves, and such into zombies isn't beyond his reach.

which is something i've been trying to nail into the heads of DK players for years. it doesn't matter if your DK's a human/orc/elf/etc. and not a forsaken, they're still undead.

i realize it's a small thing compared to the other issues in this game, but people who insist their death knights are still alive have always been a pet peeve of mine.
