New info and art for the upcoming DGS2, which is coming out in August.

Since DGS1 + 2 is going to get a bundle, can we please get a localization announcement, Capcom?

Also, question for anyone who's played DGS1. I know most of the Sherlock Holmes stories save for the post-1923 stories are in the public domain, and that Sherlock Holmes appears in DGS.

My question: Does DGS contain any references to the post-1923 stories that would make the game difficult to localize from a legal perspective? If so, how easy would it be easy to remove those references and replace with something else?

I know one case has The Adventure of the Lion's Mane as a piece of evidence and that Holmes deduces the reason a witness has it because "he really likes lions." Also, last case has Holmes deduction of another witness' plan being basically the plot of The Red-Headed Leage.

TBH, I wonder how much Capcom can get away with if they pulled a Herlock Sholmes and altered the names/references to the Holmes cast and stories.

The Sherlock Holmes stuff isn't really the main issue with localization. It's the fact that Ryuunosuke is from Japan and very much implied to be Phoenix's ancestor and the localization takes place in the US.

The other factor is that its a spinoff of the AA series and AAI did poorly in its localization.

Making references to pop culture isn't going to be something that is going to infringe upon copyright. Plenty of canons do this without having to pay royalities. It's making actual use of the work, like if a case played out a post 1923 story. A reference falls under fair use.

can't they say Ryuunosuke or one of his descendants immigrated to the US at some point after the DGS games?

That's basically what they did with the Fey ancestors in Spirit of Justice too, so I don't see why they couldn't. The ancestor thing is also not the main issue with the localization, honestly.

I dunno, both DGS and the main AA games are about 100+ years apart from each other. I feel there'd be a lot of wiggle room for the localization team to work with that doesn't totally break the fact that the English version takes place in the US.
