We mustn't offend the all powerful NPCs!

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

I don't have the game yet, but I've played the Zelda games starting with a link to the past. Three heart runs are my jam. This comment thread has got me worried, and I've heard that combat wise it's different from the previous Zelda games. How hard is this one in comparison to the rest?

you can and will die a lot. accept this.

that said, as long as you realize you're making this a challenge run on purpose and avoid acting like that fucknut (and probable troll) from last post who purposely refused to do anything to compensate for the self-imposed three heart limit, you'll be okay.

Oh yeah, no way I'd do a three heart run on my first try (I do those second playthrough). Mostly I'm concerned because it seem so different from the other Zelda games, plus it's an entirely new system to try out. I personally throughly skyward sword was difficult game just because of the more sensitive use of the wiimote compared to TP. But thanks for the advice!

Most enemies can knock off three hearts with a single attack. A three-heart run of BotW is absolutely possible, but I'm going to say is going to be very, very difficult.

Get really, really good at dodging and parrying. And buff away. Godspeed, anon.

Damn yeah that sounds tough. I've always done my three (or six heart in SS) runs second time around. I'm not that crazy haha

Like the others say, you'll definitely have to approach combat differently.

The good thing is that a LOT of situations give you alternatives to just going in and taking a sword to your enemies. Most enemy camps provide cover for you to get in close and snipe enemies without getting so close they come after you (and if they don't see you, they won't come after you). Also you have basically unlimited bombs which...don't necessarily make tons of damage happen it is possible to stand on a ledge and toss bombs until you kill some of the enemies or knock them down enough that you can then jump in and hit them once or twice and kill them. I usually do that when I run across a couple of moblins because those jerks have really long reach and often have spears and big clubs that make it hard to get in close and not get hit.

For the hinoxes, one of them recently I was able to climb up high and shoot an arrow into its eyeball every time it tried to come for me...it never got close enough to hit me. :)

And of course you'll want to spend some time upgrading your armor to give yourself better defense.

(and yes, resign yourself to dying a lot. The good thing is that the game autosaves VERY generously so you don't lose much progress when you die and after you find your first great fairy it becomes really simple to find fairies to collect and hang onto...and you don't have to have bottles to do so)

Holy shit, no bottles for fairies? That sounds sweet. Thanks anon for this advice. I'm looking forward to playing the game!

Yeah...I've noticed I can still only hold 3 fairies before they stop appearing at the Great Fairy fountain but I'm not sure if I could still find them elsewhere also (sometimes they pop up when you lift rocks and the like).

Also, regarding my "you can toss lots of bombs at enemies till they die" thing I mentioned. I discovered last night it also works on Guardians if you have the right vantage (because they can kill you with lasers). They're one of the strongest enemies in the game so it took a LOT of bombs and a couple of days of in-game time but eventually it had lost all of its legs and a bomb had actually made it fall over and it couldn't get up again so I finally jumped down and killed it ded with a few hits from my sword and got rewarded with a pile of stuff. :)

Anyway, you're welcome! Enjoy the game! I'm having a lot of fun with it. I've spent more time adventuring than advancing the plot!
