This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. I think the movie was doomed either way. Ghost in the Shell was an influential movie, but it wasn't a huge success, and it isn't stuck in the public consciousness the way beauty and the beast or power rangers are.

I think the only way this thing was making money is if they made it a low budget, more experimental thing and hewed closer to the source material so that they'd have a pleased core audience - both things which are pretty much anathema to modern hollywood.

yeah, like, the whitewashing controversy certainly didn't help its chances, but nothing was going to save that movie. it was just bad from the ground up. at least the art direction was good, but art direction alone can't save a mediocre movie (you hear that, zack snyder?)

that's the problem, really. the fact that they so obviously didn't even try to make a decent movie. they just thought to slap on a pretty mainstream white face as the lead role and expect that the money will come pouring in, which is gradually starting to bite hollywood in the ass the more people are seeing their bullshit.

i'd say maybe this would be a lesson in them finally deciding to put more effort into these kinds of adaptations, but i'm not holding my breath anytime soon.
