i'm not really a fan of them either. if you're going to have a god-like npc, then just go ahead and make it PCs-vs-NPC instead of using players to facilitate NPC-vs-NPC.

I think the point is to utilize NPCs to facilitate PC-vs-PC rather than using PCs to facilitate NPC-vs-NPC. To answer the OP's question, warring gods you can side with is an easy way to encourage conflict between PCs in order to make the setting suitable for characters that wouldn't work in the usual cooperative survival or PC-vs-NPC settings.

If you want to play a villain, for example, you're often stuck with the choice of either defanging them entirely (and likely making them OOC) by having them shut up and cooperate, or having them act like a villain and get shunned by the rest of the game because the PCs are all supposed to be on the same team. God-vs-God conflict provides an "out" in that they can be ICly villainous towards the opposing god's followers while still remaining in good standing with their own god's followers.

The problem there is that most characters DO work in entirely cooperative settings (there are very few dedicated villain players in DWRP), and a lot of players just aren't interested in large-scale conflict between PCs, preferring to build positive CR. So, settings with optional PvP aspects like Ryslig often end up with a small portion of the game being really thankful for them, and a larger portion trying to ignore the plot altogether. Shame that there aren't more dedicated PvP games out there, because it is frustrating when you really want to play that out.

It's running for the same amount of time most events locations do, which is 2 IC weeks. If you don't care about Pokemon have your character do something else instead of touring.

They were too busy attempting to court non-comic buying demographics that they fucked the entire product up.

In actual marketing you’re supposed to branch out slowly. If you want a certain demographic, you do so with one product to interest them and keep it generally separate from your original one. You try to snag interest, then integrate them into your other products.

If you branch out too much, too quickly, you dilute your original product or even flat out ignore it. If you REPLACE your original product to court a new demo, you’ve fucking failed at marketing.

What Marvel should’ve done is focused on making GOOD comics and added one book at a time, reintroducing old characters back into the mix and bringing them to the forefront with a good team behind it.

They had every chance to do this with Falcon, by reinvigorating Falcon and giving him his own book when he was introduced in Captain America 2. People new to comics would’ve been interested in him. Instead, they make him Captain America and shove preachy on the page. That WASN’T the Falcon people wanted to see. They wanted to see Cap and Falcon being best buds.

They made Thor a woman to court female readers. Nevermind that women were already reading Thor because Thor was actually SELLING at the time. You know what they could’ve done? Pushed SIF. They had Journey into Mystery, a Sif solo book, and they failed to advertise it.

This was Marvel being lazy, greedy and fucking spiteful toward their core audience. This was Marvel, high off the MCU’s success, thinking they didn’t need ‘nerds’ any more and tried to court those outside that demographic, thinking they had some sort of staying power with them.

They were fucking wrong and now their core audience despises them.

yeah, a lot of people just use plurk for rp, and will clear out people they dont share a game with or psl with after enough time. if you wanna maintain a connection you'd be better advised to share skype/discord/whatever the kids are using these days.

Marvel promises to change and go back to the good ol ways and they won't do as many events, terrible plots, and actually hire good writers and editors, the nerds accept this get a bunch of good shit for a couple of years before they have to wear sunglasses in the middle of a snowstorm because marvel hit them in the eye with Northstar and Kyle getting unmarried.
