Any advice for RPing smut as a character that's really dominant during sex? I know the person I'm RPing with really likes the D/s aspects of their relationship and I'm trying to figure out how to RP it well. In particular I'm struggling to write my character as being controlling without writing or assuming how her character would respond. As it is, I feel like I'm writing baby's first BDSM where the dom is checking in every five seconds, for characters where that really doesn't make sense.

today is my birthday. (yay.)

a friend's birthday was a few weeks ago, in december, and i remember that day because of how self-obsessed that friend was. they kept making a big deal about how everything had to be about them the entire day. it was a little annoying but i went with it because, yeah, it is their birthday, it's the one day we can make solely about them.

but now this friend is unloading their issues on me. today, on my birthday. every other sentence starts with "i." "I feel," "I want," etc, etc. They haven't asked how my day is, haven't really let me change the subject... they said Happy Birthday and immediately started talking about themselves and their problems.

am i the bad friend for being pissed at this, or are they?

My cats are so soft I can't even handle it, they are so fluffy and docile and huggable, it's like whenever I touch them my mind empties of all thought except SOFT.

“Your character is so unoriginal” is nothing to feel insulted by. The real world is littered with unoriginal people who make up our friends and family. Our fiction is made of unoriginal characters we adore. Unoriginal is another word for popular, and one shouldn’t feel pressured into not playing what they like simply because other people do too.

“Your character is such a snowflake” is quite the same. Narrative worlds allow for you to have a space to imagine things that other formats won’t let you. There’s no reason why you shouldn’t have a space in which to explore different ideas. If the lore of the medium doesn’t support it, you can still find a nice niche to play it with those that like your character.

“You only RP with your close friends!” happens to be quite a moot point too. We all have a limited time (some more, and some less of it) and nobody owes anyone time if they’d rather have fun with people who they know are like-minded.

“Your writing is awful!” is another rich example, in a hobby in which I’ve seen practically nobody claiming to be good writers themselves. I’ve certainly never seen any roleplayer speaking of their grade A writing ability; only of their love for playing characters. Many of us don’t even live in English-speaking countries. To expect something that was never promised to you is simply delusional.

I’m sure you can think of many more statements blurted out on a daily basis to judge the RP of others, and most can be summed up to people bashing others based on their own, one-sided expectations. Here’s the thing though: RP is a collaborative effort.

We walk a fine line in our hobby, in which sometimes it seems like we have to surrender to the desires of what other expects a character should be like.

Roleplay is an exercise in imagination. You owe nobody originality. You certainly don’t owe anyone having to conform to what the “norm” is, and your time is certainly not public property. Those who want to RP with you will find you, and those who don’t can go elsewhere. Nobody should be shamed for how they spend their time with a hobby that’s basically playing pretend with other people.

There’s only two rules to RP:

Don’t hurt other people OOCly.

Have fun.

Holy shit. My mom came into my room to bring me a plate of chicken nuggets and I literally screamed at her and hit the plate of chicken nuggets out of her hand. She started yelling and swearing at me and I slammed the door on her. I'm so distressed right now I don't know what to do. let's speculate as to why anyone would arrive at a point in their life where this is just an okay thing to do

my icon-making pet peeve is deciding which background color to stick behind the character (say if you're making icons from RPG sprites like dangan ronpa's or persona's). everything I pick just ends up feeling really plain, but anything other than flats makes the icon feel too crowded/over-designed. maybe I just suck at picking attractive color matches for my characters.

It's likely that nothing will come of this in the near future, but I've been toying around with the idea of some kind of "setting reset" mechanic for a game, and I'm wondering how people would feel about seeing it in a game

It'd be kind of like on of those "this day is repeating itself" tropes in scifi, where something is causing a day to repeat over and over again, and only one character actually realizes that it's happening. It's up to them to convince everyone else that it's happening, or figure out what's causing it, and put an end to the time loop. Only in this game, the ones who are aware of the loop would be the players' characters.

Obviously it wouldn't be a single day repeating over and over. It'd probably be a time span of, say, three months or something. Possibly more than that. But every few months the characters would find themselves back at the "beginning," surrounded by a world and NPCs that don't seem to realize that this has happened before.

Pros:
A potential to reset NPC CR and powers/items/influence gained in-world. That could possibly prevent character stagnation and open up plot involvement opportunities and NPC interactions for new characters instead of limiting things to 'old guard.'

Opportunities to ICly re-dispense plot-critical info that may have gotten lost to drops or characters just keeping their mouths shut.

A chance for players to try different courses of action during plot relevant events, to see how each one plays out in the setting, and how it affects the way the rest of the timeline.

Cons:
Mostly the potential for player fatigue. Constant resets yanking characters' gains out from under them would be demoralizing to characters and players both. And for players that have been around for a few cycles, playing out the starting scenes would get boring, even if later events in the cycle could play out differently due to player influence.

this isn't rp-exclusive but i really wish people would realize that just because i'm online and i haven't replied to or tagged them yet, doesn't mean i'm intentionally ignoring them. it's like these fuckers think that they're the only person in my life!

guess what, just because i replied to you doesn't mean i'm going to sit there and refresh waiting for you to reply. i'm either going to work on my other tags, dick around on another site, watch my shows, or play video games.

it doesn't help that i'm an insomniac who's been unable to take their medication so sometimes i'll skip sleeping some nights because i just can't sleep. i might pull an all-nighter monday night/tuesday morning but then fall asleep at a normal time tuesday night. but i'll get some assholes assuming that if i can reply to them at 4 am on monday night/tuesday morning, i'm always available at 4 am, even if they know i'm an american.

even if i'm posting on plurk or online on skype, that doesn't mean i'm able to type out long tags/replies. maybe i'm out or at work and don't have access to a computer/keyboard.

and maybe... just maybe! my life doesn't revolve around (site/app we both use)! i use dreamwidth, plurk, skype, tumblr, reddit, youtube, lots of fucking sites. sometimes i even watch shows or play video games!

even certain people i know irl assume that i'm glued to my fucking phone like they are and throw a fit if i don't answer ASAP when i'm sleeping/working/out of the room.

tl;dr: why the fuck won't people realize that my life doesn't revolve around them?
