Good luck to anyone summoning for New Year. F2P here wants to live vicariously through your rolls.

i've had similar issues as ayrt and often the thread gets dropped even before it takes off, like after 3 or 4 tags. so there's nothing to wrap up because nothing ever happened and that can be really frustrating when it happens a lot.

you are a mod. your game has a character limit of two per player, and a player can only app one character per monthly app round. a prospective player approaches you in private and says they want to talk to you about a sensitive issue, but they're very nervous because people have treated them badly and wanked on them over it in the past. after some reassurance, they tell you that they have DID and are part of a multiple system to cope. the system shares a single plurk, but they want each member to be listed as a separate person on the OOC contact post, and they want to be able to app four characters in the upcoming app round. they say this won't break either character limit rule because each member of the system would be apping only one character. you check out their public plurk and find a 500-comment long plurk of them worrying about being turned down because of ableism. they have a lot of friends, a couple of whom are already in your game, reassuring them that the mod has no reason to turn down this very reasonable request and that if they do, they'll help them fight to reverse the decision and spread the word about this ableist mod who hates mentally ill people.

what would you do?

turn them down in terms of being able to app four characters. they can app two and you'll work with them with that, but they still share one host body and that is what you're basing it off. that host body only has so many hours a day to invest in each character, and that's basically why character caps per player are put up in the first place. there is a rule in game in place. 2 chars per person. as unfortunate as their situation is, it's not two chars per identity, and they would be technically rule shirking if it was allowed.

not to mention fuck their friends for already gathering up their pitchforks over 'ableism' over something like this. you're not telling them they can't play in the game. you, as a mod, are telling them that unfortunately, because this is a collaborative hobby, you have to play within the rules set forth, and those apply to everyone.

essentially, it'd be like someone with DID wanting to play on two opposing softball teams, or two teams at all. their identities may want separate things, but in this instance, they are under a single host, and it would be too easy to abuse things like playing close chars from the same cast because 'it's different identities playing it, it's not the same'.

you might get some initial backlash, but i think in the longrun, you'll be okay. and frankly, if they want to be listed as two separate people, maybe they can work that out with you. but they would just have to be limited to one char per identity to stay within the rules, and they couldn't be close castmates. i think that would be a fair compromise. as it stands, they're gearing up for a fight to get everything they want without seemingly being willing to compromise anything when they know it's a sensitive issue.

so offer them that, if you even want to, and if they can't agree to it, nope.gif. people who actually have DID do not act this entitled over it, nor do they try to fight for rights over it. this sounds like elfkin/firefoxkin/my astral plane's self bullshit.

not to mention it's not ablelism to hold anyone with disabilities to the same standards as everyone else unless it actually limits them being able to play. they're not being not allowed to play. if you want to work with them, they can even play under an alt as well. they just have to keep to the two char limit. you're bending the rules for them enough. breaking them entirely just to give them their way isn't ableism. what they're doing if they expect that is abusing their status to bully their potential mods into giving them their way, and that speaks for potential future issues in terms of dealing with other players or plot that doesn't suit them or fit with them or their alts and now you're an unfair shitty mod because you're not letting them do everything.

either nip it in the bud and say no, or allow them an alt with a single char per alt. they should have it put somewhere that they're DID so that people know who and what they're playing with. other people can rightfully call it out as favoritism.

I felt like Maui's theme of doing anything to be accepted and loved was fairly well related to the overall theme of figuring out who you are and what part you'll play in life. Moanna has a role laid out for her by her people, but she's not certain that role fits who she is and has to go out on her own to figure it out; in contrast Maui was cast out and entirely denied a place among his people, and he goes to extreme lengths to try and make one for himself. Moanna's inside and wants to go out, Maui's outside and wants in.

But yeah the fourth wall jokes were awful and jarring.

keep in mind that most of these movies are aimed at kids. actual children. and they find that shit funny. we think a lot of stuff is overdone and cheesy and 'too obvious', but the market for disney movies is like, 4-12+ and if i can make a kid laugh by 'stealing their nose', i think a few fourth wall puns in a movie for kids isn't really out of the bounds of fitting in with the movie.

idk, man. i just feel like we judge movies like this that we like, kids movies we like, way too adultly. it's a kids movie. let it be cheesy and stupid. it has a moral to it and small little messages to help kids relate better to their social group, but in the end, it's still relatable to max and ruby and calliou and barbie movies.

Ugh.

Privately I would think this was so fucking stupid it wouldn't warrant anything more than a "2 characters per person. You can app 2 characters max. Disabilities don't entitle you to more than others. Get help."

What I'd actually do would send an initial "Thank you for your query. The mod team is discussing your issue and will respond to you as soon as we have an answer for you. We appreciate your patience," and then I would intentionally leave some time to respond, maybe a day or two. I wouldn't want them to stew, but I'm not going to pander to that shit and I'd want it to seem like I'm giving the matter deep consideration. I'd then try and sound as diplomatic in my actual reply as possible, something like:

"We appreciate you coming to us with this matter and how difficult it may have been and as such we will try to answer with the sensitivity it deserves while addressing several competing factors. We appreciate your patience while we came to our decision.

In order to be fair to all players across the board within the game, we can only allow each player to app a maximum of two characters. In this case, for clarity sake, we are counting one player as a single body, regardless of how many 'members of the system' exist per body.

Unfortunately, this will mean that you will need to decide which 2 system member/s take priority. In other words, your system is limited to 2 characters overall.

Moreover, because by your own words you are using a single plurk for your multiple system member use, it does not seem reasonable for us to list each character as played by completely different handles. We can, however, list both your handles for each character. For example, if system member A apps character 1 and system member B apps character 2, we can list in the following way:

Character 1 [Canon] (Played by A/B) [plurk]
Character 2 [Canon] (played by A/B) [plurk]

You will then be responsible for explaining your system make-up to any new friends you make in your own social media spaces.

For additional clarity sake, please be aware that making different social media accounts for your individual system members and apping as though they are each single players is also not something we condone and could see you and your system members removed from the game entirely.

We're aware this is likely a disappointing answer, but please understand that your coping mechanisms should not entitle you to more than the rest of our playerbase, and unfortunately what you're proposing would mean that your system overall would have double the number of characters that other players have, which we cannot allow at this time.

We may expand the maximum number of characters per player in the future though, depending on how the game develops in the coming months.

If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to contact us again, but please be aware that we have answered your question about how many characters your system may app in total, which is 2.

I would then wait for the bwah bwah and give very few fucks, personally. As far as things to get wanked about go, I wouldn't care too much. I'm sure my playerbase would rather I stick to my guns and not give one player, especially a brand new one, more perks than them. I'd also be confident that anyone who thought I was being ableist with that decision wasn't someone I'd want in my game anyway, so no loss and everything to gain.

moanna had to learn how to operate beyond the reef. moanna always had the desire to go beyond the reef, but she didn't have the capability. this is demonstrated by her failure and almost drowning, and again by her difficulties navigating and again by capsizing and being unable to recollect herself, in contrast with her ability to handle the boat at the climax.

her people stopped being voyagers because they decided it was safer to stay put, and the idea was reinforced as youth who didn't know what they were doing failed at their attempts to strike out. Her people are afraid to go out there, and Moanna learning to Do The Thing is the impetus by which they could all change and grow.

i'd be willing to make slight accommodations, but i wouldn't give them everything they're asking. i would only let them app one character per round, and on the contact section i'd let them list their alters and what character each one plays under a single header, but not as individual players.

even if we operate under the assumption their alters are different people, they still only have one body, and that means each one of them has even less time to play their characters than "separate" people. all the alters can't be out and playing at once. they need to prove they can handle one character, let alone four simultaneously.

Oh, I'd also add that their system could only app one character per app round.

I'd tell them we've received multiple concerns from players in-game about their interest to app and decline them outright.

If threads are repeatedly ending that early with the same people you might just have to consider that the players are flakes. Which is its own can of worms but nothing personal.

I'm not going to, given how things have been here lately.

i'd be interested! maybe team-based missions sort of deal? though i guess that runs the risk of a team of flakes/one player ruining it for seven others.

it'd be cool if 'network' threads were just between the eight players in the sensate cluster, and if you wanted to contact people outside of the group you have to either be in-person or use a bulletin board or something.
