i was in the game for a year? and yeah that ties into the mod change and they run plot. it became an info dump. even though i had enough background knowledge to understand what was going on, it didn't really feel like you could do anything with all that information. this big political wheel is spinning with or without your character. its easy to get lost when a lot of things lose their relevance. like another anon pointed out, old plot clues would come up that weren't relevant (that i could tell?) and would add to that why does this matter? feeling. if you're going to bring up dead npcs, do something interesting with them? they are certainly very interesting from what i could figure out! or just keep them dead so it doesn't get overwhelming and confusing.

ig it doesn't really matter if you're there just to make your characters bump uglies, which tanagura is very very good for.

my tags take about 10 minutes to write but sometimes i spend another 10 to 20 minutes changing little things or reading it over because i'm obsessive about typos

one thing that has helped me tag faster is writing short tags. i don't mean like ecats short, but my tags probably average out at around 10 sentences including dialogue. obviously i don't stick to that as a hard and fast rule ALL the time. sometimes some are shorter, some are longer. but once i stopped trying to pad shit, i got a lot faster and a lot more reliable because i wasn't burning myself out or stressing over not having ~enough

anon, fandom loves taking het characters who show very obvious interest in the opposite sex (even womanizers like barney stinson) and headcanoning them as gay gay gay gay gay for their best friend.

i hardly fucking ever see people headcanon characters as bi for fanfic or rp.

a character's history and world is usually part of what i like about them

we're talking about media, not fandom.

it's not a slur but it's cringey and tone deaf in casual conversation. just say gay. it's easier and you sound less like a 60 year old.

have you never witnessed the "character sexualities" plurk going around

most people i see play all their characters as bi to keep their shipping options open

for the in depth aus you might as well be playing an oc with a certain character's face.

because if i'm not perfectly ic and copying canon i get uncomfortable, nevermind the mere act of rping means taking the character out of their canon context

creativity and also scares me and when you run into one shitty au that means all of them suck

going through a bout of insecurity, nothing crippling, but wondering how others measure how good their rp partner is or isn't. is it all about speed and character voice only? do you care about the text in the brackets? what's the line between evocative writing and purple prose?

i am a lesbian, one who actually likes vaginas. so i assume dwrp would turn me into a gay male.

i fall in love with the setting just as much as i do with the characters. if i get in to a canon that's about fighting aliens, i want all the action and angst that comes along with epic space battles.

if i wanted to play modern day cops and robbers, i would have picked up a character from a canon like that.

tbh i don't give a single shit about voice. i probably don't know your canon anyway, so i couldn't care less about whether you're technically the most ic or not. what's important to me is this:

1. tag back frequently. at least a couple times a day.

2. don't write long tags. once in a while is fine, but long tags are a chore to read and respond to most of the time. put an action or two and a couple lines of dialogue, tops, because if you start adding too much then we get in to that weird circle where our characters are suddenly having 3 conversations going on at one time. keep it simple. give me a chance to respond to one thing before you throw three other things at me. don't try to impress me with flowery writing. just move the thread.

3. speaking of moving the thread, do things! give me things to respond to! give me some body language. ask my character some questions. get an attitude with my character. basically provide interesting things for me to respond to, because i promise you i'll do the same.

4. tying in to that, don't be afraid to pick up the hooks i set out for you. i put that shit in my tag for a reason. use it!

5. don't be afraid to bend your character a little bit for the sake of keeping a thread productive. i have this problem a lot with ~antisocial hardasses~... yeah, okay, sure, they're really rigid in their canon and are likely to walk away or shut down conversation at every turn, i get it. but this isn't their fucking canon. that's not fun to play against, and i'm not going to waste my time having my character chase yours for the next 7 months. either make shit happen or bye.

6. dork out with me about our threads and characters on plurk. just a little bit every now and then so i know you're as excited as i am.

these things will make me the happiest camper.

everyone i know who's praised for their "big, meaty tags" does this and it drives me up the wall

nothing confuses me more than 'modern' versions of characters from medieval or fantasy settings that aren't actually anything like the characters at all, apart from having their face. what's the point?

because those are the aus that people actually do. no one takes a song of ice and fire character and turns them into a modern day royal politics version or has jon snow as a prison guard or marine or something. it's always coffee houses and art students.

It's because the rest of that stuff requires research just like playing the medieval or fantasy version would. Modern AUs are typically a result of a lazy player not wanting to do that research.

i agree with most of these! i'm okay with a couple times a week if the person is busy, though, and while i don't require giggling on plurk about tags to consider someone a good writer, it is definitely nice.
