i wouldnt have a problem with characters figuring it out/catching on bc its the kind of stuff that would probably be stupid obvious to some people outside of canon but

my character wouldnt cave and spill their backstory/reasons for hiding the thing at any cost either, or even admit to it. and i dont want to deal with people getting fannyflustered that they dont get their super special secret cr no matter how ~good~ and ~trustworthy~ they tell me their character is all the time

never passed it up because if i want to play a character i want to play a character. but.

i've gone an entire year of my character never spilling their backstory. it sucked because i was ic, but, consequently my CR remained incredibly superficial and shallow. no one else even tried to pry or give a shit about my character on a personal level. so. i dropped. i figured it just that particular game. but still. super frustrating. i'm in it for a slow-burn, not a no-burn!

characters with secret/alternate identities though, hoo boy. there was always THAT ONE CHARACTER (usually castmate) who just HAD TO BE THE SPECIAL FUCKING SNOWFLAKE to FIGURE IT OUT!!! always. always at least one. and always the most butthurt if i tell them no, or not right now. chill your tits man. my character doesn't exist to make yours look cool.

unless a character is stated to be bi, straight, gay, furry, or xeno it can't be erased. Because it doesn't exist until its stated.

just remember that every character is defaulted as bi (heavy male preference) until mentioned otherwise and you will see where the "EVERYTHING IS ERASURE!" pissinfants come from.

for me, it's because i want to play the character as close to canon as i can, given that they're taken out of canon and usually put in a panfandom setting. i enjoy x character from y series, i'd like to play that version. that includes cast. i want to be able to recognize my character and their cast from whatever canon they're from.

a lot of aus just don't make sense to me and don't feel like the character at all. why not just make an oc and slap on their face instead? worse when someone wants to play an au version against an ou cast and no one else wants that because it just doesn't fit.
