I definitely did love that! I enjoyed that it showed Moana learning from mentors, too, rather than being skilled from the get-go, or getting by on talents she already possessed or had gained during the film. She's a lot like Mulan in that regard, that she started out strong-willed and determined, which was good, but they showed that that wasn't everything that she needed to finish her journey. She had to be humble enough to want to learn, too, and to acknowledge that there were things she lacked and that she couldn't win just by being there, but by working hard and learning to be a wayfinder.

Moana stumbled a lot, but I think this is one place where it really did shine.

*talents she already possessed rather than abilities she had gained during the film. I reread that and thought it would be a little confusing.

i would still say that "romance" itself is a little misleading, since it tends to imply romantic shipping, when it seems like the wording in the faq (and what you've mentioned here) emphasizes all kinds of personal bonding, and not just shipping in general. otherwise, it seems like the game is based on some sort of polygamy end, rather than characters simply forming connections with one another.

One of the strangest "arguments" I've read in a while.

Moonlight-hate anon immediately backed down but somehow kept arguing.

I have more to say but I more or less agree with most besides the crab

Since the point of the crab was to highlight Maui's driving force, issues, and to mock him about it (Shiny is actually all about Maui but it's loss under David Bowe in your face) but the entire seen and setup was badly done.

If (literal) gorillas are now “Black coded” does that mean they are trashing a movie with a Black lead about working against all odds to have a musical career despite his family having an extensive criminal history? That seems like a pretty good message to me… The sort of thing they’d usually be lauding…

While you're definitely not wrong, there was a reason for the coconuts and crab guy; they're all derived from real myths they wanted to touch on. That said I do wish they'd gone with a more serious threat than silly coconuts, though the mad max reference was fun I guess. I also don't know enough to dive into it especially deep, but iirc Maui had another companion god despite being a trickster, so I don't think Te Fiti taking him in would work. (if any experts are around, feel free to correct me).

Overall I felt it was supposed to be an island hopping/buddy road trip movie, something they've done since The Princess and the Frog (Tiana: goes on quest with dude, meets wacky side characters and irrelevant pieces to the plot. Rapunzel: Goes on quest with Eugene, meets wacky side characters. Frozen: ANOTHER WACKY QUEST with irrelevant points to the plot, etc).

I think it would have been stronger if they went to more islands to drive this home, and as you mentioned, let Te Ka have more presence overall, but for what it was, it was fairly fluid. I was also confused Maui's backstory amounted to nothing, but I supposed they realized a little too late it would have overshadowed Moana's development.

As for Voyaging, the villagers were all scared of the water (or at least the Chief put a ban hammer on it) due to all the monsters swimming around, but with that solved, they could get back to their roots again, and it's what the water wanted (the connecting force between islands). That said, it loses impact given we don't see all these terrifying monsters that are mentioned.

Blah blah, ia, just pointing out some reasoning for a few things. I think I enjoyed this one the most of all the buddy road trip Princess movies. Tangled is probably the most coherent and fluid of them, but this edges out because I loved the music.

If it's not your top level that goes unnoticed, why should you care about "countless empty toplevels again"?

You don't need to monitor other people's success in memes or worry about who posts there first.

Tweaked and copied from last post because I got to it late:

Sibling corruption line with mind fucking and tentacles, maybe breeding.

Basically the idea is that a supposedly only child is going through the family home after the death of her parents and finds a vaguely (more or less) humanoid thing with tentacles that turns out to be either her twin or older brother/sister that's been kept locked away and cared for. I'd like for it to start with her trying to kindle a familial relationship/figure out their family's dark secrets, while the sibling plays along and attempts to use their naturally corrupting influence to seduce and possibly breed her.

Bonus points for Lovecraftian overtures/links, the sister not being as human as she appears, a touch of mind control/mental influence.

I'd prefer to play the sister, and I can AU a couple canon characters or make an OC. I have no medium or gender preference for the monster, only that both characters be 18+. Iconless journals are fine too. If you're interested, reply here or shoot a PM to barginbinsock.
