How meaningful are threads where OP is forced to add the cliche "what's got you mad recently, anons?" (or any variation of that phrase), just so they can vent something without being told "this is not your personal plurk"?

People respond to those threads with problems of their own but hardly any discussion arises. They become just lists of things. What's the point?

Why is not real conversation encouraged without silly phrases?

"You guys have fun with this, but it's really not my jam so I'm going to sit this one out. We'll plot and do something else soon though!"

Seriously. Just stick to your guns. If it's the same people doing this over and over (as opposed to different people asking for the first time and not realizing that you're not into this sort of stuff) I'd start putting a bit more pressure back on them like "I have already told you this isn't my thing" because there does come a point where people need to listen to preferences. You don't need to be rude about it, but sometimes you've got to draw lines consistently and put the onus on other people to actually pay attention to things you've told them in the past.

Leverage is A++. Everyone should absolutely watch it. And more people should play from it because the characters are all gems.

90% of the trips I've gone on with friends were just a series if disappoubting compromises for both of us, unless they're the type pf person who's totally okay with splitting up and doing their own thing for the day. I will choose to travel alone 99% of the time.

blenders and garbage disposals

I guess not that irrational. But I am really careful about the design of blenders I buy and my SO has to run the garbage disposal.

It's called free speech. Deal with it. They have every right to say what they want as much as you do. If it goes against your own personal morals, you aren't obligated to correct them. If they refuse to listen, neither are you obligated to beat it into their head that they're wrong and you're right.

what kind of poster are they and what kind of wank would they probably get involved in?

for example: one of my characters would wank on literally anyone who says anything negative about their love interest "john doe", no questions asked. there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that my character wouldn't become a greater internet fuckwad if they had the chance to be anonymous. they're good at hiding their crazy from people they aren't extremely close to but it's possible they might out themselves by talking about how "john doe is perfect" and "how can you not love john????" or... threatening people who might be a threat to their relationship with john.

That's a huge assumption to make when after all this time the only character confirmed to be straight/in a straight relationship is Torbjorn. And Blizzard has said Tracer isn't going to be the only LGBT character.

Also, let's take a look at the all the "pushing" Blizzard has been doing with Gency: since the game came out in May, they've had two sets of voice lines specifically for each other (I'm not going to count the Valentine's ones because there's a chance they aren't going in the game) and have shown to still be in touch in Reflections, with neither of them having speaking roles. It feels to me they're taking this whole thing slowly and in a way that doesn't shove the relationship in people's faces (I think I've heard Genji say "Angela!" two times total and I've never gotten the "I was too late to save you" line). This isn't aimed at you specifically, but I don't know what people want Blizzard to do short of just not doing the ship, which is ridiculous. I'd love and hope for sprays and lines for Tracer referencing Emily, but it's also been... what, four weeks since that reveal? And presumably they won't start putting Valentine's stuff in the game for a few more weeks? Just because the data miner didn't post/find anything for Tracer doesn't mean Blizzard is now going to pretend she isn't gay, which is the very huge assumption everyone is jumping to with this.

Straight people exist, this is just an unavoidable fact, and expecting Blizzard to ignore that is unrealistic. And I don't mean in a "straight people need representation too!11!" sort of way; I really doubt we're going to find out everyone's sexuality and we're definitely not going to see everyone paired up. Just... if you can't handle the thought that out of a cast of twenty plus people, some of them/your favorite might be heterosexual and in a straight relationship, that's on you, not Blizzard.

Just adding this isn't all aimed at you, more like just a mini vent directed at the portion of the fandom who are, I think, being ridiculously stubborn about this.

my character would be an extremely obvious anon. he'd be that anon who gets really fucking invested in shit like towel wank and get hilariously angry and probably become a nameanon. he'd also wank on his friends but whiteknight them if anyone ELSE wanks on them.

It's pretty dismissive to ignore the activity in the game just because it's not to your interest for whatever reason.

When I've introed characters I've found it helpful for exactly this reason. "Go look at the guide" isn't a very exciting thread hook, no, but it allows you to handwave past all the basic setting information. That's especially nice when you're a current player introducing a second character, because I would have found it very boring to have to ask a bunch of questions I already knew the answers to.

My general impression has been that characters that can't / won't read the IC guides still get plenty of replies from characters willing to explain things to them (source: I play a character who has never read the guides), so it's not like the infodump threads are forbidden from happening.
