Beware

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

Maybe you should start by thinking why your characters have been topping. When you know that reason, then you might know what's the opposite of that.

Why does it have to be either or anyway? Is it about control? Are the characters in an equal relationship or not?

for me, it's about mostly playing characters who like and want to be in control, so i've mostly written characters who top in powerplay heavy situations where it's just one or the other. i also don't write a whole lot of smut.

i want to branch out and maybe play a character who's really into bottoming or where they'd have a more equal relationship and switch things around for fun, but i'm having a harder time pinning down the... idk, tone and mindset? for that kind of scene? now that i'm thinking about it, i have a harder time writing lighthearted just-for-fun smut threads in general, since it's kind of difficult for me to relate to

above anon is being a smartass but there really is 0 market for bottoms in the dwrp smut scene

there's maybe like 1 top for every 100 bottoms out there

not nearly as common as pure subs, a lot more common than pure doms.

I want to see what happens when you put two bottoms together and they need to take matters into their own hands to get the smut done.

I can answer this question for you: the subs take turns trying to cop out until either one player loses the game of chicken and has to take the dom role or the other player loses the game of chicken and drops the thread.

signed, sick of domming even with my subs.

in real life this isn't actually that fucking hard

preferences for topping or bottoming don't mean being completely frozen outside those roles

wtf is wrong with people

(Anonymous) 2016-10-28 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I think this might be a symptom of a really myopic mindset about kink

I notice this on flist too. People know exactly what they want, and they want to do it over, and over, and over. The characters change and the partner changes but the formula is set in stone for them. It's true even with the doms.

laziness. it isn't about topping or bottoming, it's about not wanting to have to do anything but write how their character feels and moaning sensually.

Isn't that contradictory? People play smut all the time so saying that a) almost everyone has characters who are bottoms and b) no one wants to play with them doesn't make sense.

A lot of people play villains or characters who are really smart and active, and in charge of their own lives, or superhero types. It's hard to see how most of them would be bottoms.

dude... who you are as a person doesn't necessarily have to do with what you like in sex. sometimes people who are always charge and in control like someone taking over the reins for awhile because it's relaxing. or maybe they just like bottoming because it feels good and turns them and there's nothing more to it.

Of course and that's why it's so stupid to talk about who's top and who's bottom.

You don't have to relate to everything, especially not when it comes to a smut scene. You just write it, you pretend it. I'm almost certain you can't relate to every single personality trait your characters have or to the things they do.

If you have reliable rp partners, maybe you could ask them help you voice-test a different kind of character.

I don't play much smut, either, and I never consider my characters to be 'top' or 'bottom'. That's just too weird for me. I see them as people who occasionally have sex and while they do, they try different things because I don't want my writing to get repetitive.

If you need a new mindset, how about this: the character who likes to be in control can sometimes allow the more submissive one to be on top of the situation, because they know they can take back control whenever they want.

And when you play the submissive one, you can imagine they get pleasure by knowing their partner likes to be in charge. So it won't be like 'things just happen to this person without consent' but more like 'they are active in giving what the other person wants'.

IDK if that helps. Maybe you need characters who don't take sex so seriously.

it's not so much that i feel like i need to relate to every aspect of my characters or everything they do so much as i'm having a hard time imagining and pretending in this case. not positive why, which is why i wanted to ask for advice. it's not so much that i think of my characters being in one static top or bottom role so much as i..... mostly rp noncon smut, so the character's role in that "scene" is already pretty fixed.

that said, i do in fact play a lot of characters who would take sex seriously and aren't into just messing around, and i'm a bit bored of that and want to switch things around by picking up new characters who would be more light hearted and have fun with it.
