it's not rude, but it's hard to explain it all concisely, since it involves a lot of things. for example like... i have trouble making facial expressions, and i also have trouble reading them. i have to do a lot of mental gymnastics built off of past experience to try and figure out "what does this person's face mean" and then ALSO figure out "what face should i be making in response". this also applies to things like posture, basically all forms of body language. it's really exhausting since every single face-to-face interaction is just, nonstop effort for me not to appear like some stone-faced weirdo.

also, stimming. my stim habits aren't as bad as some-- i just fidget or tap my feet, so sometimes i can get away with it, but if i'm extremely stressed out or overwhelmed, it becomes really aggressive and very noticeable, so i have to use replacement behaviors like chewing on the inside of my mouth (which can get destructive-- i have a lot of scar tissue in my mouth) to avoid drawing attention to myself.

eye contact is hard for me too. i'm one of those who can't stand it, but i try to force it as much as i can in public. it's like nails down a chalkboard levels of uncomfortable but people tend to think you're upset if you refuse to look at them in the face.

basically it just involves a lot of careful observation of the people around me and a lot of mimicry. it's stressful, and tiring, and the reason why i spend a lot of time alone. it's probably not healthy for me to strive so hard to appear like something i'm not, and i wouldn't actually recommend it because of the stress, but i have a lot of shame surrounding my diagnoses and i'd prefer people just not know if i can help it.

it bugs me when people use obscure metaphors for incredibly simple things. i feel like super obscure descriptions should be saved for things that are hard to describe otherwise.

like bruh, you didn't have to call a cylindrical hallway a "gun barrel". 'cylindrical hallway' honestly would have been the more effective way to describe it. i don't really think about being in a gun barrel when i'm in an area with rounded architecture, and i'm guessing most people don't, so it's just making the description more confusing.

on the spectrum too and I know EXACTLY how this feels

I'm not even afraid of them knowing I'm autistic as much as I'm afraid of accidentally alienating them by doing something that feels completely normal to me but breaks some unspoken social rule

I often worry that I'm doing eye contact/posture/facial expressions/voice tone/turn-taking/face-reading/god knows what else WRONG WRONG WRONG and that these subtle cues might all be adding up to drive people away

New Super-Man. It's a really fun book, and all the characters are fun takes on the American versions, down to the names. There's Kenan Kong (A spin on Clark Kent), the intrepid (tabloid) reporter he's crushing on named Laney Lan (Lois Lane), an Acerbic Wonder Woman named Deilan (Diana), a shut-in overweight Batman named Baixi (Bruce), and so on. The villains of the book are expys of the Freedom Fighters with such names as Ghost Woman and Flying Dragon General.

You really should check out New 52, though, anon. It was hit or miss at the start, but it's been growing into itself really well, especially with Rebirth.
