Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

can you anons provide an example of a fun vs boring tag? i've been wondering what people consider as a boring tag

a boring tag is a tag that is all about your character, and leaves no hook for your partner to continue off of. rp is basically collaborate writing-- a boring tag is like a dead end. for example--

[ character sits and contemplates the wall next to them. they have a lot of thoughts about their tragic backstory and deep emotional pathos. insert a lot of pretty words about character's inner world. come bother them!]

is a boring tag, because it gives your rp partner nothing to grab onto. there's no direction, nothing for a character to icly respond to. your rp partner basically has to write a whole new starter for you. and if you keep responding that way, well, it would be more rewarding to write fanfiction.

I don't actually mind if I get a reply like that and I can even tag into a similar top level if the character looks interesting and I have ideas for the thread.

If, however, the replies continue the same way, I write my character out of the situation (I don't like to drop threads).

It finally hit me that the only reason I RP is because I haven't been able to get into a proper fandom in years, and it's the closest I can get to this feeling of shared passion and creative community. It makes me really sad and I don't know what to do.

Well, yes. I periodically try. But I always end up feeling like I'm, idk, too old and cynical for most canons that really get big? I admit to having snooty hipster tastes. Children's animation makes me gag, 99% of popular LA shows look exactly the same, and I'm not interested in whatever latest sports some generically pretty anime boys play while not busy with their sexual tension. Which, fair enough, can't stick your nose up at what people like and expect to have any people to talk to. But I just wish there was... more out there? Something else? Something different?

Okay no I put that terribly. I think what I really wish is that I could get into stuff the way I did when I was younger. It's not the popular canons that changed, it's my own ability to throw myself shamelessly at and into them.

there's a difference between backdating and backtagging, anon.

backtagging's continuing to tag an old log. backdating is posting something new and saying "well, i know it's friday, but this actually happened on monday".

On a related tangent, though, what's the deal with abide and that bland generic-looking female OC which tags him on just about every meme he toplevels at? I've never seen abide reply to them yet the OC keeps tagging with every new meme that rolls around. Looks sad and desperate.

I could be entirely mistaken and they have long, long threads of hundreds of comments where I don't see, but where I do see I can't help wondering why anybody would continue with enthusiasm against someone who does not have any at all.

not to sound as bitchy as it's going to, but it's the nature of the steve. they ask for hits to their top levels, and they seem to actually want their friends to tag them, but they only ever wind up tagging back one or two threads before dropping when they get bored. it's shitty, because they're an actually decent steve, but they have the attention span of a hyperactive crack addicted squirrel. you'll see them play out one long thread while ignoring everything else. or they'll top level in all the memes, then only go tag one person's top level and ignore their own threads. there's little logic to her playing or what her moods are going to be. could very well be that the oc is asked to tag her, but abide just drops the thread.
