Gotta catch 'em all

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

if you're in a game with someone, it's fine to request an add on plurk and most everyone will say yes. a few like to keep their plurks more selective because they talk about IRL stuff on it, or like to keep their social circle small, or whatever - but they typically say so.

i've never had someone approach me out of the blue and ask for my plurk. usually, i add new people when i join a new game, and go from there. plurk isn't only for gamemates (you can still be friends with someone even if you haven't shared a game in years, of course), but in my experience that's the quickest and best way to meet new people.

if you don't want to commit to a game, you could try going on meme comms like bakerstreet and starting up threads with people, and once you're a bit into the thread, PM them like "hey, can I add you on plurk? I'm [username]!" the downside to this method, of course, is that you can only really add people one at a time, and they may not always say yes.

or you could go on meme comms, RP as normal, and save your plurk for when you're ready to join a game.

No problem! So it comes off as weird/uncomfortable if someone asks to add someone on Plurk out of the blue, but less so if, for example, I'd have been threading with theme on a meme or expressed interest in joining a game they're in?

I'd like to know ahead of time so I don't go unnecessarily stepping on any toes.
