only review I can find isn't saying it's terrible, just that it didn't do enough with its cast or premise, and played it safe the whole film rather than taking any real risks.

the same review recognizes that the massive social media controversy over the film (which you've insisted on perpetuating here for god knows what reason) may be the primary cause to blame for this, as Sony probably had the crew and cast remove anything that would have possibly stirred the pot even more, which is something that happens a lot whenever a film is generating a ton of controversy. not always, but often enough.

tbh it's not surprising. disappointing, but not surprising. not really as sensational (whether Very Good or Very Bad) as anyone on either side is going to make it out to be.

you say the reviewer says it "plays it safe" when it's a movie that's been accused from day 1 of being feminazi sjw-pandering trash and somehow making it to the final cut is a scene where they kill the famous giant ghost by blasting in the crotch

i'm sure this movie will have problems but "playing it safe" doesn't seem like it was one of them

Its not a published review (who listens to those anymore anyway?) but there is one up on youtube that was telling. Sounds like they pretty much ripped off the plot of the first movie but did it in an insulting way.

And they clearly didn't remove anything that might have been seen as controversial if people are still being offended. I am a woman and I am offended that all of the male characters in the movie are apparently being portrayed as mindless idiots not to mention the lame way the final villain is defeated. I like a bit of girl power in my movies but this just went overboard on it. I really wanted to like this movie too since I grew up watching the Real Ghostbusters but it just looks horrible.

well you know the writers couldn't be assed to look at their own source material too.

there's this huge battle where the proton packs and poistron beams are destroying ghosts which the comics have shown that this is a worse idea then inviting Gozer or Tiamat for lunch on your world.
