You sound fat

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

when did whiteknighting become so terrible, anyway? god forbid a person you don't like have friends that care about them

i think that's pretty much the actual reason. people getting wanked on aren't supposed to have friends, and if they do, they're wankers too.

whiteknighting lost its meaning, really. it was originally more about people who had no idea who they were defending or what they were talking about and ended up making the person in question look even worse with their clumsy attempts at arguing.

now it's come to mean "anyone who disagrees with me, or asks for deets, or says something i don't like"

+1

Whiteknighting used to be for things like the people who defended Ken until they learned what the wank was about, or for people who argue that there's just NO WAY their friend could have done that because they say so. But it's been misapplied so much it doesn't mean anything anymore.

Idk, I've never found it terrible, but it is pretty side-eye worthy when someone barges into a thread full of legitimate complaints and starts throwing their weight around about how x would NEVER do any of this, you are all liars and fools, stop bullying my precious cinnamon roll!!!

If someone is smearing your friends name around on an anon comm, I think it's better to ignore and move on. If there are no deets, the thread will die. If there are, the only thing replying to the thread will do is being more attention to it. Like most of our definitions, it has lost a lot of its meaning so yeah, anyone not replying to a namedrop screeching for more deets is met with "hi x" or accusations of white knighting, but it has definitely been a thing where friends of the wanker/non-entity made the problem SO much bigger than it was originally.

people get mad when the target of their hate has friends who want to defend them, mostly

that said i don't like when my friends try to whiteknight me because drama dies faster if it gets ignored. like i appreciate the concern and all but id rather it just went away

it's not whiteknighting to think you're wrong, anon.
