The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

except non-anon comms have been tried, repeatedly, and all have failed. because people just prefer it this way. if you want to sock it up, there's a comm made for that. but no one's going to use it as much as they use the anon comms. sorry.

they're needed as long as they're used. i don't know why that's so hard for people. don't like it, don't use it. but don't try to take it away from people that are.

because they were tried while these still exist. gotta let go of these relics first before we can move on. the last vestiges of people that still cling here instead of making fandom communities or graphic/icon comms or whatever else will let go and maybe do those things if it's gone. or not, either way, I'm not shedding any tears.

you realize there's a reason for an anonymous general comm, right? with all the shit people get from the kinks thread alone, i would have thought you'd understand that. even with socks, people shit on the socks for being gross. you have people coming in to troll logged in comments about icon comms.

it's the people, not the place. let's say you move it. let's say. let's say that all anon comms close down forever and are opened as sock comms. the same shit is going to happen there. people were shitty assholes with socks when wg went into sock mode (albeit at a slower pace). if people want to be shits, they will be shits. there is zero effort in making a sock account to be a fuckball with. you are not going to get rid of this type of behavior. you just aren't. look at things like fb and youtube and reddit, where people are logged in with their actual real names saying horrendous shit. it's going to happen. frankly, i think we get off pretty light here in terms of trolls.

then maybe the best thing is to just let all of dwrp die and move to a venue where anoncomms are locked out the gate so this never happens again

maybe you're right. hell, i'll say you're almost certainly right. it's damn hard to get piss out of the pool once someone's gone and taken a leak. but that doesn't mean it should suddenly be okay for people to piss in the pool whenever or however they want. when i was a kid my mom told us she put a chemical in our pool that would leave a green line on our legs if any of us pissed in the pool. it was probably bullshit but it worked, i never pissed in our pool and neither did my sisters (that i know of). sometimes you need a green line to hold over little shits to keep them from pissing all over the places, it's unfortunate but it's just human nature

and you're talking about what happens to kids vs what happens to adults. we're adults. if adults want to be hateful, negative spewing assholes, that's their right. we can just choose not to like them, not listen, and avoid places where that happens. we have the kkk, wbc, trump supporters, and that's only in the general us. because there's a thing called free speech that people like to utilize. and some of those people are going to utilize it to be a dick.

are there people like this elsewhere in the world? sure, there's all kinds of them. there's neo-nazis and hatemongers and trump supporters and so on. but they don't have a place here. their place is somewhere else, somewhere i don't go. and the wg obsessives, i don't want to go where they are either. they're not in this hobby to have fun, they're in it to settles grudges or because they think arguing is fun or something else, something that's not having fun mashing internet barbies together

icon comms do not, by nature, need to be anon.

sock account shits are easier to moderate than anon shits. no one's saying they're going to go away, but they'd certainly be easier to deal with.

you know how people keep talking about when rp was thriving? part of it was because of the variety of content, multiple fandom comms, fanfic sharing/icon sharing/whatever comms.

people "just prefer it this way" because if given a choice between consequences and no consequences people will choose no consequences every time. the whole appeal of anoncomms is that they give people a platform to say what they really think and feel without having to own their words, which is great for getting a finger on the pulse of our community (most of us are still stuck in high school mentality, apparently) but the thing about consequences is that they're the price we pay to get along with each other

if wg and rpa existed exactly like they were, just without anon, i guarantee most if not all of the problems they (and by "they" i mean mostly "wg") would dry up instantly. would trolls still harp on kristen or noodles or whoever if they had to own it?

no, they're not. but their influence arguably is. people are finally starting to realize that wg is mostly just a hivemind of maybe a dozen or so really dedicated, really nasty pieces of work and then a rotating list of people who visit to keep tabs, to settle their own petty grudgewanks, or whatever

wg isn't going away. but it's getting more irrelevant, i believe (and fervently hope). a small gang of horrible people shouldn't have power to make a community of thousands tremble before them. they deserve irrelevance and i think that's where they're slowly but surely headed
