i hate using tumblr terms but this is an excellent example of what they traditionally call moving the goalposts. by the very definition of ljrp as a dead platform and all its games as dead games, it is literally impossible to provide you the exact comparison you seem to be seeking (compare this new game to that new game). memebells i picked because it had roughly the same lifespan as eudio's had so far and roughly the same expectations from its userbase. would you be convinced if i gave you the numbers for an actual game comm like damned (beats eudio)? no, you'd say that's because damned was open longer (see you later goalposts!) what about gargleblasted (beats eudio tremendously)? open longer, "that's not comparable because it's ecats!", etc. (nice to meet you goalposts!) you'll always find an escape hatch because you've chosen your belief

it's funny how you complained about apples and oranges comparisons only to make a disingenous comparison in your very next post; if that was a deliberate thing, well done to you i guess. i mean, i hope you understand how disingenous it is to compare memebells (which only had a year of life due to the exodus in 2012) to bakerstreet which has had six full years of life, but hell, maybe you don't. maybe you look at those numbers and see actual evidence for your "our numbers are still the same!" belief. that's some impressive reality twisting if you too

memes weren't a thing back in lj, you're right. that's why i didn't factor memebells into my intial post taking a look at the big rp comms on lj (all drs). that's also why i chose it to compare to eudio, because memes on lj in memebells' day were a lot like sol is to dwrp in general today, not quite a niche interest but definitely not the most popular thing around either. sol's always had its audience but that audience has also never been the majority and eudio's impressive numbers don't make it the majority now. they just make it the largest fish in a small pond

i've based my conclusion around facts. if you have any facts i've ignored, i'd love to hear them. i notice you didn't actually list that "evidence that (I've) chosen to ignore". What evidence? Stuff like the bakersttreet vs memebells comparison where you patently twist reality around to reach the conclusion you want to reach? sorry, but that's not convincing. if you have better evidence, of course, i'm open to revising that opinion.

you keep talking about eudio like its numbers are comparable to the lj days. i've given you proof they're not, so i don't really know what else can be said in this corner of our debate. maybe if bakerstreet picks its numbers back up i'll be convinced, and maybe if dw rp goes the way of lj rp you'll be convinced. short of such irrefutable reality, i sadly think we're just going in circles here

whatever thing you've convinced yourself you're arguing, you're not. you talk about the numbers not being there and i've proved they are. memebells still had people playing on it despite a lot of people moving to dwrp. what you call an 'exodus' was really a split for a lot of people. some played in both spots. some only played in one. there were a lot of games that refused to move to dwrp for quite a while and they still played on lj.

eudio did and does well. the numbers are there. if the dragoncalled mod hadn't gone mia, that game likely would have done not too bad going by the reserves for the first month. your inability to see that there are a lot of people on this site just waiting to flock to a new game is your problem, not mine. why do you think cdc/ryslig/eachdraidh got called 'the big three'. because they all three offered different types of gameplay and opened up with huge numbers. they were monoliths on the site, until they couldn't keep up with the stress of being large games because the makers had thought they'd be opening small games and hadn't prepared for the flood.

'either cap the game or prepare for a flood'. why? because so many people want something new and fun to play with. if you have a tdm that does well and a concept that catches people's attention, you can easily have another mega-game in the making. eudio hitting 500 members proves that. the big three hitting high numbers proves it (and hey, they weren't sol, so shove that argument too). a lot of people are just fucking around doing nothing because there's nothing to do. if someone gave them something worth getting worked up about, having another/more big games is easily a possibility.

memebells to eudio is a more apt comparison than you want to admit, and certainly a much better comparison than memebells to bakerstreet. the only thing memebells has in common with bakerstreet is that they're both meme comms, with eudio they were both alive and active for roughly the same time span (yes memebells has gotten very irregular activity over the past three years from lj remnants but all of it combined doesn't even add up to a tenth of its activity during that one year). they're both "niche" comms (memes weren't popular yet and sol is still not widely popular). you just want to compare memebells to bakerstreet because it's such an obvious boost to your "dwrp isn't dying!" argument. never mind that bakerstreet has been active and the main hub of all of dwrp for five whole years while memebells had one year as a niche comm and then sad little pokes for 4 years because the mods didn't have the courtesy to close the comm for the sake of making the data as irrefutable as possible

eudio is the game equivalent of tfln. we've already established this. that doesn't make it proof that dwrp is healthy, or in any way as active as ljrp was back in its glory days. as much as i'm sure you love sol and are perfectly satisfied by sol, there is also (and i need you to stay with me on this one) a sizable contigent for whom it is not satisfying. the point i made about memebells and eudio seems to have been lost on you, so i'll say it more clearly for your benefit: eudio is not for everyone, nor is it even for the majority. it is for sol lovers, a not-insignificant percentage of dwrp's population but by no means the majority (or hell, it might be the majority NOW, but it wasn't once, nor should it be). as for your point about cdc/ryslig/each, they all collapsed or are in the process of collapsing due to being wankpits. their size alone isn't an excuse, none of them is or was larger than the supergiant games of yesteryear even at their peak
