You sound fat

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

hey anons, if you had a castmate who dropped while saying they'd come back sometime later maybe, would it be kosher to look for a replacement anyway? should there be a grace period??

I had a canonmate who swore she'd return for months up until the point the game closed.

If you want to play with that castmate again, and they dropped for reasons that would likely actually be short-term, go ahead and wait on them, but don't feel obligated. They dropped. That slot is no longer theirs. Search away.

once they've dropped, they've dropped. you don't hold spots for people in a sort of memoriam. oftentimes i've found that 'i'll be back later' is just a polite way to sort of say that they enjoyed the cast/game and it's not a bad reason they're dropping. nine times out of ten, they never try again, spot open or not. the spot is open as soon as the next app round is, end of story.

No, they can't expect others to wait for their return.

You two could always do PSLs together.

Depends on details a little, and how long you've known them, but PSL's are a good way to go if they're not able to be in game for a while.

depends on how long you've waited. i'd say a month is a generous amount of time to give them to get their shit together.

also, if you're the type who can actually handle confrontation, it might pay off to tell them "hey listen i'm going to look for a new (xyz)." then they can't say that you never warned them.

depends on a few things. do you want that particular person back? did they give an estimate of when they might be back? why did they drop in the first place?

i once had a castmate who dropped because they had a big rl thing coming up that they needed to deal with. sure enough, once that thing was over and done with, they apped back in just like they said they would.
