Anyone know where the hell shipping Mercy/Zarya came from? Someone on my timeline won't shut up about it, and as far as I can tell it literally came out of nowhere.

I think I know who you are referring to. but the ship comes from butchiest character with the most delicate. just a cliche.

It's the lady/knight dynamic literally every popular f/f pairing fits into. I...kinda hate it, but what can you do.

one would think the prevalence of Heavy/Medic might be a reflection in this, too, but I don't play this game and have no idea how common pocketing is in gameplay with those two characters.

zarya was a very rare sight in the games i was playing. all the other tanks were more prevalent.

but yeah, i mean, thematically? it's definitely in that same sort of trope

i'm really confused about widowtracer because people have taken their backstories to be proof of a canon lesbian relationship and???????????? w h e r e tho??

i'm all for shipping ladies together and i normally do, but i hate that people take the teensiest bit of 'proof' of a ship and act like it's canon. i always feel like doing so takes away the burden of writers and game companies from actually making a statement and making the characters canon gay and openly so. it just feels like appeasing dudebros by keeping everyone just straight enough for plausible deniability while queerbaiting LGBTs looking for representation. goddamn do i hate it.
