Rundown:
rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.
Rules:
Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

Anon culture is alive and well on Tumblr and in a lot of ways it's significantly more toxic than what we have here on DW. One of the benefits of dreamwidth is it's more or less limited to RPanons and Wankgate. Sure, you'll get the occasional hate message, but since PMs and anon comments aren't critical to RPing, you're free to turn those off at will. But most of the time anons just want to sit back and watch things burn.
Whereas on Tumblr if you've become a target, people aren't just passively watching you mess up and laughing about it in private. They're usually sending messages to you or your friends in an effort to stir the pot. And since open inboxes and anonymous messages are such an important feature in Tumblr RP and people have found their way around IP blocks, it's difficult to put up a proper shield. Plus, back when burnbooks were popular, those would just be dumped in your rp tag for you and anybody who might browse it to see. Some of the people I introduced to dreamwidth were actually relieved that there's the divide between the actual functional RP community and the anonymous community.
But that being said, I'm definitely taking it into consideration and if there's enough call for it, I'll go ahead and remove them and rewrite the guides that contain those mentions.

I personally don't think dreamwidth's anon culture is all that bad. There's a lot of petty complaining, but usually the outright malicious content IS shut down by either moderators or the community itself.
Coming from someone who has RPed in both places, what goes on in dreamwidth is a lot easier to ignore and a lot easier to learn from than the average I have seen on tumblr, and I've run with a lot of different fandoms and a lot of different groups. There's less direct contact between the person doing the wanking and the people being wanked on and the only way to even know it's happening is to go there. Nobody is pushing it in your face and you have to more or less seek drama out. It's not in the space you RP in constantly.
The crux of complaints I also see directed at dreamwidth has more to do with the fact that we have limits on how many icons we can use, tumblr rpers think our icons are ugly, and they hate our format because its a lot less interactive than their own. Wank culture factors in last, and usually least because everything that dreamwidth has is also over there and in more public and in your face colors.
But as I said, if people disagree strongly enough, and I'm seeing that they are I'll take a day to rework things and remove the mentions of them to make it look more appealing.

Tumblr RP memes are more akin to Plurk RP memes than anything else. Only they tend to be way more in depth and way more frequent. Talking about your character and all their particular nuances is honestly just as big of a deal as RPing your character. If we did it on bakerstreet, there'd be significantly less complaining about smut memes and more complaining about headcanon ooc memes.
If we wanted to adapt a style like that, it'd probably be something more like people posting memes on their personal journals and people responding to them there. Or making a comm specifically dedicated to those memes, though I feel like that might be less effective. There are definitely ways to adapt our style to suit some of the more fun aspects of theirs.
