Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

i think's it's too speed things up and give the other person a lot to work with

time is at a premium and while it's not how you would write out the scene in a story in a certain light replying lots and geting lots can be satisfying

hellish to read afterwards of course

idk, i get that in theory, but for me it just slows things down. i tag much faster when i'm not trying to figure out how to reply to five different things at once.

i think my tagging style just doesn't mesh with these kinds of players, but maybe mine doesn't mesh with theirs.

i know, i used to rp in chatrooms where the only thing you could do was reply to one thing at a time (unless it was a fight, in fights you tried to pile on the other person with as many actions as you could and they were wholly depending on you having a faster wpm

good god, i don't want to go rp another one of those chatroom fights)

i try to match my pace with the person i'm rping with, and add a bit more if i can

just so you know, from at least one person, if i give you a lot of things to reply to, i don't necessarily expect you to reply to everything and won't feel too snubbed if you don't. if i do, i'll get over it quickly enough

so idk, don't stress about figuring out how to reply to everything

oh the days of chatroom rp... i don't miss them, haha.

that's good to know. i do make an attempt to respond to everything, but i also try to streamline it back into one topic, if at all possible. if that doesn't happen, it's not a dealbreaker, it's just a pet peeve of mine.

honestly, i'd have chatroom rp over having five different instances of the same scene to accommodate all the people who want to tag your starter.

man, scenes that don't take two months to finish. i miss them.

yeeeah, this is why i tend to tag out instead of putting up top levels.

i kind of hate making toplevels. too much time fuckery has to occur unless you put (open to the first person only) on all of them but then that kinda limits potential cr

so if everyone decides not to do top-levels, how will any rp get done?

i don't care if other people aren't bothered by several similar threads happening at once. it's just not something i enjoy. it seems to me we always have an abundance of top-levels though, with the complaint that not enough people are tagging out, so i don't imagine it will ever be a problem.

i wish it was easier to switch between them freely, so the choice is on the table for people

alas, i don't agree with chatrooms anymore
they make my anxiety spike after a point

True for me, too, that it slows down my writing. I still do it occasionally (not five things at the time, maybe just two) but just like the other anon, I don't expect my rp partner to respond to every single detail.

well, five may be an exaggeration... sort of. the last tag i got has four. (a question in response to what my character said, an action against my character that wouldn't make sense not to react to, another separate question, and another action that i could probably get away with not replying to, but it would be weird.)

two things is more reasonable, though i usually will try to lead it back to one thing. i know sometimes it just happens, but when it gets to the point that two different conversations are being had over multiple tags, it really pulls me out of the thread.

I think that just seeing you discuss it here has made me really understand how that kind of writing has affected my ability to tag sometimes. My rp partners live in different timezones and because we're not boomeranging, it's so easy to think "well, I'm going to write a lot to compensate the fact they only get one tag a day".

So basically what is supposed to be a way to further the story quickly becomes something that hinders it by making tagging difficult.
