You sound fat

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

you realize that no one in that article talks about shoveling cake into their face, right? that people that lost the weight are struggling to keep it off and usually failing. because once you're fat, your body hoards fat. why? because bodies are fucked up and i'm tired of this argument of 'you just need to put the cake down' when that's not the issue.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-03 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah it is

a lot of people don't go through the mental and psychological changes needed to stop falling back on fucking food

no wonder they get fat again

(Anonymous) 2016-05-03 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
no, it isn't. read the damn article.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-04 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
That's really not the only factor. I mean, yes, it is absolutely true that it is a factor, but people need to take the shit in the article into account too.

I dieted off and on for most of my life and did terribly at it in part because of the psychology -- I'm not at all denying that was an issue. I finally got my shit together and lost 80 pounds, and am now at a healthy weight for my height (even on the skinny side). I have been for three years. However, living on a normal, healthy diet (i.e., not calorie restricting, but eating the same as other women my size; probably in the range of 1500 a day), I started to gain weight back. I've dropped 10 pounds again going on an intensely restrictive diet and am coming to terms with the fact that if I want to stay at this weight, I'm going to need to keep being pretty hardcore about it, because my body still thinks I'm at 210.

tl;dr: As one of the few former fatties who has succeeded, it is still physically really fucking difficult.

if you gain weight at 1500 calories then, clearly, that's more than your body requires. that's fine. people have different bodies that need different calorie amounts per day. eat less than that and you will be ok

which just goes back around to the very thing that has always been said

(Anonymous) 2016-05-04 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Well, yes, but my point is that 1500 calories is a completely normal intake for most women of my size and shouldn't result in gaining weight for most of them. My metabolism is slowed because I was so overweight for so long. I have to eat significantly less than most other women of my size to stay at this weight.

and that thing is wrong, because if you have 5 people of the same gender/race/body size/weight eating the same amount of food and doing the same amount of activity every day to burn off excess weight and one of them is still gaining weight because they used to be a lot larger and now their metabolism has slowed, calorie intake becomes only a part of the issue and not the whole of it. metabolism is part of it, which was brought up last time, but the argument was 'lol, no, you can't have someone just not burn fat for doing things because that's not how metabolisms work. you have to be eating more than you're burning'. which is partially true. they're eating more than they're burning, but only because their now slowed metabolism won't let them burn it at a 'normal' rate.

everything matters, and this argument of you have to be shoveling junk food in your face or sitting on your ass all day doing nothing to be fat is factually incorrect and now, there's literal science to prove it. but no, it's the fatty fatty's fault all the time, and they just need more discipline and to eat less.

stop bullshittin. first you say what i said was wrong, then later you fucking agreed that it was correct and eating more than your body needs does make you gain weight

stop playing like ~metabolism~ is some magical value that throws off the whole equation. it's not. it plays right the fuck in to the "as much as your body requires" issue

Hi, if I ate ~as much as my body requires~ according to you, I'd be back in the hospital like I was last time I tried to lose weight your way. My metabolism is so fucked that I'd have to barely eat anything. Wanna know where that landed me? In an ambulance.

yeah fucking right

How are you not getting the issue here? "As much as your body requires" is different for everyone and for some people, especially those who are formerly overweight, that amount can be very low. It's very hard to figure out where the ceiling is if you don't have a normal metabolism, and it can be very hard to stick to it once you find it.

Metabolism is literally a value that throws off the whole equation.

well, sorry, but about 1200 cal or so is pretty normal for the rest of us. but I fucking promise you, PROMISE YOU, no one is getting fat off 500 calories or whatever bullshit near death number people like to throw around for shock value

people have different bodies, sure, but at some point you're just telling lies

(Anonymous) 2016-05-04 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
What the fuck are you talking about? 1200 is what most dieting programs recommend to lose weight. Most programs strictly warn against going below that number.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-04 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
you're wrong, anon. it's closer to 1400.

I started getting fat when I was five because my parents were abusive. That definitely sounds like my fault.
