Favorite part: the clients. Least favorite part: the court system.

Most of them are genuinely okay people just trying to figure shit out. I like most of them, and the vast majority is stupid and petty shit that honestly doesn't deserve jail time (reckless driving, which in Virginia most of the time means 1) you had an accident and the officers charged you without bothering to find out what happened, or 2) you drove over 80 mph; possession of marijuana; driving on a suspended license). These kinds of charges can ruin someone's record and their job and then their life, and you're the person who stands in between them and that. It's powerful, and being the person who is trusted with that is just insanely rewarding and uplifting sometimes.

Least favorite is the court system. Prosecutors offer deals based on the criminal record of the defendant and what the officer involved wants to do; it's all mechanical, they don't give a shit. The judges often don't give a shit. You don't get enough time with all your clients. And it's all racist in ways that seem subtle or silly to get upset about individually, but that add up to most of my clients being black and my black clients getting way worse consequences than my white ones. It's frustrating, and it's awful. Sometimes it makes me want to give up. But if I give up, who's going to be out here giving a shit? (If you want specifics about this, ask; I don't want to do my lengthy racism-in-the-courts rant just randomly.)

I knew this was where I want to be all through law school and I didn't waver once. Poor people get a terrible deal in life and I think there's something inherently more virtuous in defending poor people who don't pay you than defending rich people who pay you tens of thousands of dollars. Rich people don't need my help. Poor people do.

short answer is yes. One of Homestucks good artists, got bit by Steven universe and lost a lot of talent....and started to dabble in Vitaligo is a thing characters must have to be black and suffering.

I'm very sure that I have BPD but I'm unable to get my psychiatrist to diagnose me for it. Did you have to shop around for different psychiatrists before you were able to get an accurate diagnosis, or was it something that was accurately diagnosed immediately?

The anons above me have some great advice regarding holidays/the calendar (and remember that since we use a lunar calendar days are counted sundown to sundown,) so I'll add some slightly different advice regarding devoutness/which holidays/etc.

I don't know if the character you want to play is an OC or a canon character, but either way it's important to first look into their cultural background. Because of our diasporas and just generally how long jewish people have been around, we have a ridiculous amount of different subcultures, subethnicities, levels of devoutness (one subculture's devout doesn't match another's) and all that. If you're playing a canon character it's probably safe to guess they're Ashkenazi if there's nothing to indicate otherwise, but if it's an OC you have a ton of options.

Once you've figured out which subethnicity/subculture the character is, then you get to pick within that for religious observance. To use Ashkenazim as an example, there's hasidic, orthodox, conservative, reform, and probably a bunch of others I don't remember because I'm not particularly religious myself. Each of those subgroups has different levels of observance to be considered devout, from how strict kosher rules are to which holidays to observe carefully to what's okay and not okay on the sabbath. This is also true for the different subcultures; for example Sephardi and Ashkenazi populations have different opinions on what's okay to eat during passover.

I could probably give you more specific advice on figuring out holidays and such if I know a little more about the background of the character you're interested in, but honestly you can likely get away with a lot in rp due to the fact that in a lot of games time is all wonky, supplies are limited, etc etc, and so things like holidays would be less important than maintaining the impact the character's culture and faith has in their general lives.

this bothers me a lot. a poc character can never just be poc, they also have to have a skin condition, be obese, have stereotypical "nappy" hair, have a ton of body hair, a comically large nose... mix and match or any of the above.

I'll have to be kind of vague mostly so I don't implicate anyone in specific, but generally it's the same sort of fetishizing as weeaboos get into. Obsession with but poor understanding of the culture, trying to insert themselves into conversation/talking over people who are actually jewish about jewish issues/culture/whatever to prove how much they know and to feel involved, misuse of hebrew or yiddish (there are more jewish languages but people don't seem to remember they exist) because it's so 'exotic', etc. There are more harmful things of course (the jewish seductress stereotype, for instance) but I haven't seen them in rp.

In general this seems to fall under the realm of that people often forget jewish people still exist outside of this far-off concept, like often happens with first nations and romani people. So we end up more a interesting, sometimes mystical, foreign-but-not-too-foreign idea that gets latched onto and extrapolated out as a concept instead of actual individual people, and this is both in general and in rp. If any of that made any sense.

But honestly, lists and stuff bring in more clicks then anything besides maybe interviews with famous figures and/or controversial opinion pieces.

God, I started writing when GG started and it was a hell of a ride.

Anyway, Video game journalism involves very little research unless we're doing an investigative piece.

Otherwise, its all press releases, reviews, and maybe an interview or two.

Who?

My final judgement got Mana and ouch... she really makes you feel bad for that one. It's cool that they have different scenes, both as traitors and innocent Judgement victims. This is a game with some good replay value.

As for what I write? I'm the resident guru on stupid Japanese crap at both sites I write for, so lots of visual novels, rpgs, and Vita Waifu crap.

I've some really cool interviews though! Like I've gotten to talk to Ryukishi07, Mark Rosewater (MTG), Brennan Williams (Greatblackotaku), and a few anime voice over artists like Steven Blum.

Sitting in a room with Steve Blum and just talking for an hour was a highlight, he even said "Big O Showtime!" for me.

TBH I really wish I spoke every language though.

i use skype on my phone, but i can't even open it on my computer without everything going to hell. aim is pretty smooth sailing on the other hand

english - first language
asl - my mom and her boyfriend are deaf and while i know enough to get by, i'd love to be completely confident and fluent in it
japanese - i want to play untranslated VNs
italian - my father and his side of the family spoke fluent italian but never taught me how to speak it
spanish - seems pretty useful
french - a very pretty language
mandarin - might also be useful? maybe?
german - i've always loved the way german sounds and i think knowing it would be fun and make visiting germany easier

i don't think there's anything else...ten languages is a lot
