Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

If GoT trivia were a casino game, you could probably beat the house. Hat's off to you!

But you've got it spot on.

The thinking is that if we stayed too close to canon events, players who knew more about canon events would be at an advantage over players who didn't. At present, a lot of the 'recent history' is left purposefully vague so that first-round players have much more wriggle room to develop their own histories, singularly or collaboratively, and that the sum of all that information can be used to flesh things out further.

And of course, the mod team's around for anyone who needs help, additional clarifications, and whatnot.

Well, I partially cheated. I knew Aenys III didn't exist, there were kings missing that used to be there, and I knew that the Blackfyre Rebellion and War of the Ninepenny kings were missing, but I had to look up which kings were missing, and I'd forgotten about Summerhall completely.

Anyway, good to know I wasn't just getting confused. I get the reason for the changes, really.

quick answer!

[personal profile] socksovereign 2016-05-17 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
You can do either: whichever suits you more!

We developed a list of major houses with very vague details about each one so that any potential applicants would all have the same beginning frame of reference.

You can app a character into any one of these houses (yes, even the major ones), though named characters are being NPC'd. If you have a different plan for a named house, you're welcome to PM the mods; we'd rather work with players to feature the ideas of players than railroad anyone. And of course, we're available to speak and plan with players on the brainstorming meme.

Of course, if you'd rather just make up your own house, that's perfectly acceptable!

Are canon houses that aren't on the list still existing, or are they just not major houses?

In the game of thrones, cheating is acceptable. ;) And our apologies for the confusion!

If there's any other info we can offer, we're happy to help.

Neat! What's House Florent up to in this timeline? The ASOIAF version roughly equivalent to my character's canon position.

how well would a tranquil character fare in this setting?

Canon houses not on the list either might not have been formed yet, might not have existed, or might be 'lesser' houses! A good rule of thumb is that the houses on the list are 'major' houses, and each would have between 3 and 6 'vassal' houses in their service. And then at all levels, you'd have landed knights and majordomos and all the various levels of feudal government represented.

As far as playing from a certain house which isn't listed goes: you're fee to design a character from an unlisted canonical house (or make up your own) as you see fit! Whether you app into a listed house or a different one, information relevant to your character will be added on the list when you're accepted so that everyone's on the same page.

I admit, this is my biggest canon nerd weakness. With the exception of the biggest houses, I can never figure out which houses are major and which ones just have a lot of characters in the books because they're interesting.

and here you are throwing your 2 cents in, too, so you're not special.

Basically the only thing you'll need to know to play a new or existing House from the Reach (Florents or otherwise!) is that your house likely participated in the War of Thorns some 20-odd years ago, which was a decade-long conflict between Dorne and the Reach, and that House Graves is the most recently-formed House in the area.

It's also midsummer, the height of the growing season, so your house is likely flush with wealth and power as other houses begin to purchase grain in bulk to begin storing for Winter. The vineyards are beautiful and productive, the tourney season is in full swing. The only problems your House might perceive would be the backbiting politicking between your fellow Reach lords, and the potential economic threat of a young and untested king who's going to be appointing a new Small Council.

The tides of power are a fickle thing! It's almost better to just let it wash over you. Wasn't long ago, after all, that the Starks were major players... ;)

does anyone know when you're using the span html for text/font/etc. how do you make it so when you're using a textlink that it's not underlined?

You're sexually attracted to someone now though, aren't you? Sexual orientation covers gender preference in sexual attraction but it doesn't cover libido, kinks, romantic attraction, single target sexuality, the way you choose to express your sexuality, etc. I'm all for recognizing those things as important parts of sexual identity, but I'd rather that people see sexuality as complex and multidimensional (gender preference, romantic attraction, sexual expression, libido, etc.) than try to add a bunch of new "orientations" that try to describe fluid ideas that go beyond orientation.

So yeah, demisexuality is a thing, but "demisexuality" is a really bad way to explain it.

the concept is technically "a thing that happens once in a blue moon", but creating a label and making it in the same realm as homosexuality and bisexuality is bullshit.

Psst, on the Gain Resources page it says "Players may accrue pints by NPC'ing for others."

It'd be nice if we got some free pints but I assume you meant points ;)

can anons recommend some good simulation games? i'm a big fan of roller coaster tycoon, the sims, animal crossing, yandere simulator, etc. and i'm looking for new games to play. i plan on googling myself but i always like to hear suggestions from chicken-fuckers such as yourselves.

i'd prefer games that are pc/online, but i'm willing to download/buy games for gbc/gba, ds, 3ds, psp, nintendo 64, gamecube, xbox 360, wii, and maybe playstation/2/3 if i can get an emulator working. they don't have to be aaa games, indie games are fine too.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-18 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
demisexuality was a label invented by a 15 year old on an erp site and seeing adults identify with it and talk about how oppressed they are for being demi makes my teeth grind

Not as many as mcu, but they're around.

idk how close this is, but monster rancher is fun. you micromanage a bratty baby monster to make it less of a brat and teach it to fight for you and win tournaments and go on expeditions. (tw sadness: monsters get old and die after a certain number of in-game years. you're supposed to freeze combine your old monsters into new, stronger monsters to reach higher tiers of the game.)

2 and 4 were probably the best imo but 4 in particular is hard to find. 1 was rough by comparison and 3 was merely okay. EVO was... weird.

there were two gba titles that i've also played a lot of. they work on a password system to unlock monsters instead of cds. nothing quite beats the nostalgia of having piles and piles of old cds everywhere because of wanting to see what was in them, though.
