You sound fat

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

i'll give people a pass for protags from origins. they have almost no facial expressions and you almost never see their faces. from 2 onward, no excuses.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-16 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
it can but it doesn't necessarily. i'd never make the judgment without having pretty significant ooc interaction with them first.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-16 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
if they mostly or only play a certain kind of character, it probably says something. otherwise, nah.

i'm sure you also show up to complain about the completely nonsensical m/m pairings in, oh, every canon, right?

Really minor, but MCU Widows that use icons from earlier in Johansson's career or really photoshopped photoshoots. "Disguised" or not, her facial structure was really different when she was younger and, unless those are for playing younger Nat, they really don't work. For "disguised" looks, at least use stuff from her recent movies like "Lucy" or "Under the Skin".

you've got like three options for the grey warden

- blank robot in most of the cutscenes
- shocked face from the Joining when whatshisface dies
- awkward o-face from the sex scene (possibly two if you're a guy and you do the dark ritual)

yep

i write narration with the information my character knows
my character uses a fake name

so i get weirdly butthurt when other people's narration uses my character's real name which my character hasn't given their character

i never say anything because the important part is that they don't use the real name in dialogue

(Anonymous) 2016-05-17 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Chances are it's because someone got butthurt that they used a fake name in narrative before and the player was corrected on what was actually the correct way to do things.

i want to play a character that is canonically 12-14 years old and it feels weird

yes, but not directly. looking at someone's muselist will tell you what kinds of things they like writing/reading about, but from there, you have to extrapolate a little. that common trait or trope or plot element might be direct wish fulfillment, but it also might be fascination with something they don't personally relate to or it might be a catharsis thing or any number of other reasons people like certain things in fiction.

another telling thing is not just the characters they play, but the kinds of plots they usually run or cr they usually have. same applies there.

all the nicest people ooc i've known have been people who played really assholish characters from a position of removed, analytic interest, and all the most irritating have been people who play near-flawless hero characters with lots of personal emotional investment and only want positive threads and cr.

What about RPers that play characters that are in roles that are completely antithetical to each other? I've seen some RPers play characters that are exact opposites sometimes, like the baby of the group and the kind of person that kicks the baby of the group.

I don't think you're wrong about this for some people, but I've seen others with some pretty diverse cast lists, with characters that are entirely different, sometimes in oppositional roles.

any word on when the next test drive will be?

(Anonymous) 2016-05-17 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
as someone who's played a few kid characters over the years there's a lot you can do development-wise that's almost never doable with an older teen or adult. Obviously this depends a lot on the kid too, but as long as you can play them independently and you keep them out of really inappropriate situations as anon above said, there's really no reason not to play them and seek out CR like any other character.
