Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

my eyes roll forever at frothing sjws judging a 60-year old man raised in deep south like he's supposed to be some paragon of pc virtue

newsflash everyone was like that back then, yes, even your grandparents and great-grandparents

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2016-03-20 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
ok we can still judge him too tho

plenty of ppl managed to not be that BIG of an asshole, or else are you gonna excuse donald trump too?

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2016-03-20 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
donald trump is in a whole different category tho

hogan is literal backwoods hillbilly trash who was raised too ignorant to know better whereas trump was born and raised in nyc. he knows better, he's just exploiting the ignorant hillbilly demographic because it's so large and so easy to pander to

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2016-03-20 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
and even then it's not like hogan's kkk rallying, raping or molesting people, shooting up blm conventions, and so on to those precious african poc, the best kind of poc.

people need to remember that everyone's a little bit racist but it doesn't mean they go around committing hate crimes.

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2016-03-20 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
you trollin but

if hogan's only crime was being a little bit racist, people wouldn't hate him this much.

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2016-03-20 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
> people wouldn't hate him this much

except he's... still pretty popular?

i mean outside of zealot social justice circles his reputation wasn't really damaged at all. sure he suffered a bit financially but that says more about the media's increasing pandering to sj crowds than it does about the mainstream. and given that 99% of reaction to the gawker verdict i've seen has been in support of him...

yeah, i'm gonna say "hate him this much" is a overreaction. dude didn't become a public enemy like michael vick, now there's a guy who rightfully got the whole world turned against him

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2016-03-21 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
you... don't really know many wrestling fans, do you?

people will pop for "real american" sure because we all still love the character of hulk hogan, but he's pretty universally detested as a person. if it wasn't notorious backstage politicking, it was his creepy sexual fixation on his own daughter

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2016-03-21 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
i know plenty of them, they're just not weird internet obsessives

you want the truth? most people in americana don't even know about hogan's scandals. if they did, they certainly wouldn't care. these are people who vote for trump straight and either dismiss or embrace any skeletons in his closet. do you really think they don't do the same for anyone else they like?

i guarantee you that no one outside of sj circles gives two shits about any of hogan's 'scandals' (except vince mcmahon and his toadies because wcw grudgewank)

(Anonymous) 2016-03-21 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not even sure what you're trying to argue anymore. I'm telling you that people have reasons to hate Hogan outside of being marginally racist, and you seem to be... saying it doesn't count because he's popular with ignorant morons?

like what are you trying to prove here? my point was never that EVERYONE IN THE WORLD HATES HIM (maybe universally detested was a miswording on my part when I was mostly talking about wrestling fans) my point is the dude is pretty fucking hateable outside of saying something racist.

anon, Hogan is from Tampa and while it's not NYC it's not fucking backwoods hillbilly (and I have backwoods hillbilly in family and live in Tampa)

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2016-03-20 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
he was raised in urban florida and spent the majority of his life working in urban california, minnesota, and new york.

"deep south", for fuck's sake he was raised in fucking Tampa Bay.

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2016-03-20 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
someone's never been to flordia or cali

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2016-03-20 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
I have, and there's plenty of racism in both places don't get me wrong (and in new york, so idk where the 'but trump should know better' comes from), but saying he's a yokel from the deep south as some kind excuse for his racism is stupid when he spent almost the entirety of his formative years in Tampa Bay

Just because Tampa is south it doesn't mean it's the Deep South. Florida's weird in that its coastal cities and big cities below Orlando just don't have the Deep South vibe.

exactly. coastal, urban florida has a lot more in common with places like southern california than anything else.

really, Hogan being Old Man Racist has a hell of a lot more to do with the fact that professional wrestling has long standing issues with racism. like, fun fact, when Hogan became a fan of the business the biggest star in the florida region was Dusty Rhodes, a fat white dude from Austin TX that pretty much walked, talked, and acted like the typical 70's soul brother stereotype, because even though that was a popular likeable character, like HELL was any promoter going to pick an actual black dude as their top talent

not that I'm saying Dusty himself was racist, because he wasn't, but the fact that his gimmick was basically designed to get over with a black audience without the risk of being black is a pretty big indictment of wrestling's weird relationship with race, and that's the business Hogan came up in before he was a mega-star, and really still WAS that bad afterwards for a long time until guys like Dwayne Johnson came along

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2016-03-20 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
pst anon if you think a 1940s born white man wasn't racist you're living in a fantasy world

the point being made above is that people like this grew up in an era where racism was the norm, sure they can be judged by modern standards but it's pretty retarded to when they're literally too old to change. it's like people throwing shitfits over paula deen's tongue slips when it's incredibly obvious to anyone with a brain she's not malicious and was just raised around that kind of language

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2016-03-20 10:06 am (UTC)(link)
the paula deen situation wasn't just about the racist remarks she made. it was also about the intensely racist abuse her brother doled out to a black employee of theirs.

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2016-03-20 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
lord, if we're gonna start judging people for the actions of their relatives i'd better get ready for the clink, i have a schizo half-brother who's been in and out of prison his whole life

i'd never employ him at any establishment i owned but i'm also not a 69-year old southern lady

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2016-03-21 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
a 1940s white dude born and raised in un-incorporated East Austin. if he was racist at all, he must have had a miserable childhood.

not every white dude born in the south before the civil rights act was a card-carrying dixiecrat KKK member, anon. hell the whole reason dusty got over with a black crowd is because he was authentic in his appreciation of 70's black culture. he grew up in it. it's awkward that he made a success of himself through what we'd call appropriation today, but the dude himself wasn't racist.

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2016-03-21 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
you really think 1940s-50s austin was the same austin as today?

i don't think you really understand how prevalent racism was back then. it was everywhere, it was literally the default. just because the dude wasn't a screaming kkk racist doesn't mean he didn't inwardly think of them as inferior because pretty much every white person back then did (and a good chunk still feel this way today, even if they'd never ever admit it to anyone except close friends and family who feel the same way

That's the case now, but isn't hulk hogan like sixty? It was much more Deep South when he was a kid.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-20 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
The 40s to 50s in Tampa seem more like Atlantic City than any city in the Deep South tbh
