overdramatic anime gender issues are so overdone and they were mindbogglingly stupid to begin with, overwriting those characters to be actually trans instead of 'functionally appears trans but in truth has some bullshit tragic backstory that would never happen to any real life person on the surface of the planet' tends to reduce the stupidity by at least a few degrees
