Happy New Rears

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

It's the part about the mods not caring that concerns me. Something just rubs me the wrong way about how that previous shitstorm was handled and then all these drops are happening. But maybe things will look better come January. Or maybe I'm just being optimistic, IDK.

I'm not optimistic at all, tbh. besides the fact recent events have shaken players' trust in the modteam, it feels like people are running out of steam for things they can do in the setting. I'm all for SoL, but even straight-up SoL games need to have structure and a good amount of things for characters to work towards. I had fun here for a good few months, but I feel like I've reached the end of my rope.

The modteam doesn't inspire much faith, the setting is weak, and the game fails at delivering both effective horror and SOL. It's one of the most disappointing RPs I've been in. It really sucks because the premise is great and has so much potential. :/

I wouldn't say the setting is inherently weak so much as underutilized. The creepy Japanese school aesthetic combined with the surrealism, mystery, and cosmic horror that's associated with Lovecraft should have provided for plenty of opportunities both short term and long term.

Instead we got multiple rounds of hide and seek, some annoying but ultimately harmless pranks, mood-altering kidnappings, and the native NPCs turning on the players. Even the plot with the titular Inugami was wrapped up and shelved disappointingly fast with only vague hints at a future plot left behind for us.

That's more what I meant. There's so much that they could be doing with the setting but they're not and it's difficult for players to utilize it in their own plots without more information to work with. The end result is a whole lot of nothing going on most of the time. It's not fun.

ngl i would've loved it if the titicular inugami plot was spaced out and allowed the players to have a part in where it was going instead of npcs arbitrarily deciding when to call for a wrap

i thought intro of plot was good but it started to fall flat when you had characters actively pursuing the inugami, either to hunt it or investigate information about it, but weren't allowed to do diddly squat in terms of actual progress or agency

The lack of progress and agency is a problem. Overall, it feels like not enough planning or thought was put into practical aspects of the game or the mods just got overly preoccupied with their NPC plot. Maybe both.

It'd be nice if they got their shit together and made this game shine but it's hard to maintain confidence in them at this point.
