aku no hana: i read some of the manga but i was ehhh about it, so should i watch the anime?

it's treated in as a serious and traumatic event, though, not fap fodder like in other anime.

If you liked what you read of Loveless, keep reading. The part of the story that takes place at the school is excellent.

Then again, the story is pretty much at a standstill now. It is nominally ongoing but new chapters come out rarely and are very short. I adored the story personally, and I'm very glad I read it even though the ongoing pace is so frustrating - but if you don't want to deal with that frustration then maybe you should avoid it.

disagreeing with other anon on Darker than Black--second season is good, it's just different from the first season

most people who don't like it have problem with the main character in s1 becoming a side character in s2 and his issues. not saying that's why above anon didn't like it, it's just what I know most people seem to find fault with plus the change in format

I've heard people say to watch season 2 first then watch 1 and the OAVs but I watched them straight and enjoyed it all of it although the first couple of eps took some getting past

Check your sanity at the door, and watch Paranoia Agent. It's worth it if you can stand a mindfuck right now.

paranoia agent is rly not that much of a mindfuck or like, good, at all. its really forgettable. his movies are much better

agree it's not super mindfucky, especially the way it practically spoonfeeds you the message at the end, but i still think it's a good, unique show well worth watching. i enjoyed it more than some of his features -- especially due to his treatment of women being kinda skeevy in some of them, but very pleasant here -- but obvs ymmv. either way, i'd at least try it out.

do not watch the anime for aku no hana, especially if you were meh about the manga. the animation is done with rotoscoping, and not done well, so the characters look bizarre in an almost uncanny-valley sort of way. which is a shame, because the art for the world around them is fucking gorgeous. I couldn't get past the first episode because it was just too bizarre.

i really liked the rotoscoping! it was unsettling in a way that really fit the story. the director spoke at an anime convention a while ago and it sounded like he was intentionally going for an art style that would be uncomfortable to watch. i read the manga and i was kind of disappointed by how generic the art was in comparison to the anime's uncanny valley weirdness.

watch aku no hana just be prepared for an unusual art style. it is REALLY good. and the twist is actually twisty.
