I'm bad at this

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

for mawaru penguindrum, sort of. It's definitely entertaining and I don't regret watching it, but I don't think I'd watch it again basically. If you've seen Utena, then it's the same director and it shows, since Penguindrum has a big issue with style over substance. It's a gorgeous show that's visually interesting, but there are also plot elements that get lost in the symbolism. Watch the first four episodes or so, and if you like it, then you'll probably like the whole show.

i liked kyousougiga a lot. strip away the fantasy elements and it's a sweet story about a family coming back together. the visuals are great too.

Katanagatari is amazing. The art is very unique for an anime and it looks gorgeous in motion. I've been meaning to rewatch it myself actually.

+1

katanagatari is great, but be warned it's VERY dialogue heavy, and it can make the show feel overbearing when you first start out. but honestly it only gets better and better from there.

kyousougiga: super fresh idea with colorful art, intriguing worldbuilding and fun characters. however, for the last few episodes it totally falls apart and loses any idea of what the hell it's even doing. i can recommend it for the experience, but don't get too attached or your heart will break.

idolmaster: if you liked the first idolmaster, it's basically more of the same. personally i could barely stomach it, so i can't recommend it at all. unlike the first show, the main three girls start out actually interesting and promising, but it all goes to shit around episode five and stays that way, ultimately resulting in yet another moeshit show with one-note tropey characters. shame.

mawaru penguindrum: please god no. while the visuals are great and it's got an engaging atmosphere and concept, it's clear nobody working on that show had any idea what they were doing and the whole thing is just ikuhara getting high on his own farts and smearing his nasty incest fetish everywhere. incomprehensible, moronic plot, cardboard characters, any promising plotline is promptly flushed down the toilet by the end of it. on more than once occasion, rape is used as a ~shocking~ drama element and then promptly glossed over and forgotten, and the whole plot revolves around 'which of those siblings who want to bone are biologically related, and which are just found family'. just gross.

Oh my god, someone who actually agrees with me re: Penguindrum. What a load of shit.

I liked Kyousougiga, but I agree about the latter half of the series. I blame it on cramming too much into too short a time frame. But frankly, I'm amazed that it even managed to stretch its budget to 10 episodes since it's Toei. I thought the finale was great and managed to salvage the weaker second half.

Penguindrum and Kyousougiga share similarities in terms of aesthetic, but only the latter is actually about family as much as Penguindrum tries to convince people otherwise. (It's about family love -> every fucking character is involved in some form of sibcon/incest bullshit)

If OP is interested in those two because of the family theme, I'd recommend Eccentric Family (Uchouten Kazoku). Eccentric Family > KSGG > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Penguindrum
