+1 to everyone except Rochelle. She's played too much like an OC to pass as a canon representation of the character. The player should have AU'd her into the setting if that was their intention.

As much as I like the player, and as someone canon familiar, I agree. :/ But her other muses are amazing.

Too much reliance on headcanon. Too much Strong Black Woman trope that causes her to come across as a one dimensional caricature at times. She has either extremely positive or extremely negative CR with others, with no real build up for either, so it seems unnatural and forced. A lot of it contradicts her canon personality.

I'm unaware of her player's ethnicity so can't comment on that, but I stand by what I said about the trope.

She's not the only black character in the Games to be turned into a caricature and have inexplicably extreme CR with everyone.

In the other case I suspect you're referring to, I think the player has lost their grasp of the character and has been phoning it in for several months. In the case of Rochelle, I don't think the player even tried to begin with.

Na, in the case I'm referring to this person has reduced a black person to the Black Best Friend trope since day one. Everyone loves it because they all want a Black Best Friend.

I have never played the game myself but from what I've seen in gameplay videos, there doesn't seem to be much canon to go by.

I'm not defending the other aspects that are incorporated but where's the line between acceptable headcanon and unacceptable for a canon like this one? Or am I missing major character info here?

ema wants to play a black woman stereotype oc, so she should do that, not bastardize a canon character to suit her own purposes.

Rochelle does have a personality and motivations in canon to draw on. The player simply chooses to ignore that, and that's what makes the unnecessary reliance on headcanon unacceptable.

It's like her player may have watched part of a L4D2 playthrough once and she's based Ro off of that, while expanding her personality with unsupported headcanon, leading to the OC vibe.

Her Inquisitor is as bad as her Rochelle. I haven't seen the point of crit for it because lbr Froda playing Cullen already keeps out the majority of quality Dragon Age players.

Deets on her Inquisitor for someone who's canon blind? I've had a few threads with Tabris, she gives the impression of being a cockhop. Figured that was IC for her. Otherwise I found her to be very bland and inoffensive.

s/Inquisitor/Warden her Inquisitor is equally bad but Tabris is the Warden from the first game.

If you're canon blind it will be hard to explain why Tabris is so bad. As a choice-dependent protagonist she is an attractive choice of character for players who like to self-insert and have problems with characterization. Yet the plot of the canon depends on the protagonist winning over different groups with different goals and disincentives, to work together and do what she wants them to do (save the world ofc). Ema plays Tabris like elf Barbie.

Dragon Age Origins gives the option of several "origins" for your protagonist. Tabris is the city elf origin. City Elves live in a ghetto and have been subjected to slavery. Bland cockhop is not the kind of character that should come out of this origin.

What you described there is the very thing that makes Tabris so wildly OOC even for a "choose your own adventure" style protagonist character. It just doesn't make sense for Tabris to be that brainless and simpering, especially considering her background and what occurs in the game.
