Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.

Hey guys, what are some good ways to feel less depressed? A bunch of really unhappy things happened to me today and I'm so down I can't RP at all right now. Any tips or pointers?

Make up some chamomile tea if you've got it and just start smiling. Doesn't matter if you feel it at first, just walk around and find stupid things to smile at and do it.

I actually despise chamomile tea... Would peppermint work as a substitute?

(Anonymous) 2012-03-20 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
Yup. I actually prefer peppermint as well. It's got a similar effect, as an herb.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-20 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
I'll try this!

(Anonymous) 2012-03-20 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Hope it helps! Feel better, anon. :)

watch a cute/uplifting episode of a show you like.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-20 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Any cute shows you would recommend? A lot of my favorites are full of dark humor and bloodshed...

Chii's Sweet Home (about a kitten's daily life), Nichijou...

You could try reading Cucumber Quest. It's a super cute webcomic.

I wouldn't rec Chii's if you're depressed.

It's super-cute, but parts of it are also sad as heck. Wait till you feel better, eh?

Take a night time walk in a nearby park (or grassy/nice equivalent thereof) and just enjoy the outside air. If there's a body of water or a fountain nearby, even better. I find watching and listening to water flow can be therapeutic.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-20 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
It's raining outside. :( There's a fountain not far from here but I'd probably end up drenched going more than five minutes out of here.

Maybe I can sit on the patio.

Listening to rain and taking deep breaks actually helps me when I'm feeling particularly anxious or depressed. It's worth a shot?

original go outside anon

Ooh, yes to all of the above. Sitting on the patio and listening to the rain can definitely be soothing. Esp. with the aformentioned tea.

It was loud enough that I didn't have to open the door at all! So I watched it and smiled by my window. (Combining ideas, oh yes~)

Thank you, anon. I do feel better.

- Talk to someone, if you can.
- Exercise, if you feel like you can. Do some running, pilates, take a walk, it really does help.
- Watch stupid animal videos! I do this whenever I feel like shit.

- Just know that things will pick up. This may be a cop-out answer, but as someone who deals with a ton of depression, I promise it will.

I hope you feel better, sincerely.

I didn't want to be a downer on my friends. Most of my go-to guys weren't around and I didn't want to burden anyone else. And my other happy-making things weren't working.

But I'm bookmarking your links! Thank you so much. Happynews is so cute.

I understand where you're coming from--it's hard to try to talk to friends about depression, especially if you feel like they won't understand. I don't know what state you're in (or if you're even in the US, sorry if I'm assuming as much), but you may have a warmline (so you can talk to someone if you're not in a crisis situation) available: http://www.warmline.org/

Again, feel better. I hope things have been easier than the other day.
