vaguely considering whipping up a new identity out of whole cloth and apping at a game under a new name and plurk with a character no one would trace back to me. sometimes i just get really fucking sick of my current rp circle, sometimes i want to try something new no-pressure.

fellow anons, have any of you done this before? did you have fun/was it successful? do you have any horror stories?

i guess you could also share stories about stormy since this is his modus creeperandi...

I've tried it! But it was too much work and I was too lazy, so I eventually just gave up and played under my real identity.

I don't have a history of wank or anything so it was mostly a series of amusing 'whoa, I didn't know that was you' moments.

using 3 identities atm. feels good, man.

Wow, I'm impressed. (for serious, not trying to be sarcastic here) How do you keep all your stories straight?

I think I could pull off two identities at most, if that.

i play from different fandoms on each account, have separate e-mails and im names which don't sound similar, and use slightly different typing styles for each (that's 'ic' typing styles ingame and 'ooc' typing styles on aim). not too different though, because if you mess up and use the wrong one, people will usually just dismiss it. using different terms/spellings for the same thing helps.

as for keeping it straight i've never had a problem with it. ideky. i just kind of compartmentalize my 'identities', switch on to whatever one i need at the time and they don't really cross over.

as to below anon, yeah, i maintain three personal journals but only 3 of my accounts have plurks. i say 'only' three because i mis-typed before, i actually have 4 online identities. the 4th one i don't really interact with people in though, so there's no personal account for it.

in case there's anyone wondering i've actually never been wanked on! i think i just do it so i can express different sides of myself but i have no idea tbh.

i'm boggling tbh. i could never expend that much time/energy pretending to be 4 different people

I caught a former gamemate of mine sneaking around on an alias. She wasn't all that clever about it though, so I'm not giving myself any points. Played the same characters with the same distinctive flaws and was passive-aggressive as fuck, as usual.

I didn't out her or anything, but it got an eyeroll out of me, and I could have made things really shitty for her if I was that type. If you're going to do it, do it well.

Altogether I've used two before. I got bored, abandoned them.

I've done this because I'm shy about diving into a game I'm really unsure of, but I didn't really try to cover my tracks or actively pretend I'm a different person. I just used another name.

I used to do this when I played exclusively smut, but I didn't bother covering my tracks effectively (because by the time I'd gone back to actual games I just didn't care about my "rep" anymore). I'll fess up if asked about where I was before.

I've half-way done this. Kept the same name but shifted my circle of friends, switched personal journals, and changed characters. I wouldn't lie if someone asked who I was, but there has been a fairly abrupt dissociation.

Considering a lot of the people I used to play around have evolved into known wankers, I can't say I regret the decision.
